Hey guys, Just to give a heads up on the date and venue for the Big Moose Shoot Out so you can make arrangements if you are coming. Last year we had a great turn out with some major iron on the lake. Its great meeting everyone and putting faces with names.
This year we are going to shoot for a little longer trail ride. Maybe 20-30 miles instead of the 10-15 miles like the past 2 years. Also for this year there is no rules other then you have to do the trail ride to compete.
That opens the door to a true "Run what you Brung" race.
Date is sat Feb. 13th 2010.
This will be a Snow race, 1000' distance, which lake it will be on is unknown till the day of the race, double elimination race, and there is no money involved
Thank you and hope to see you there.
Rules and the run down
10AM meet at the Enchanted Forest parking lot.
11am I will call all drivers up and there will be 2 colored stickers issued. Each sticker will have a number. These represent the order in each heat, and bracket. Stickers will be place on center of windshield.
STICKERS WILL ONLY BE ISSUED HERE, IF YOU SHOW UP AT THE TRACK WITHOUT STICKERS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RUN IN THE RACE. I WILL NOT HAND ANY OUT AFTER WE LEAVE FOR TRAIL RIDE.
11:30 we hit the trail...)FYI this is old Forge and a trail pass is required, I think it is 40 bucks for a weekend pass, all sleds must be registered in NY. The fine is 300 without trail pass and 350 without registration.) You must go for the trail ride, if you cut off and short cut to the lake, you will be DQ'd. while we are riding the track is being set up, and I have spotters through out the pack.
12:30 ish Arrive at lake, track will be set up. which lake is unknown untill the AM of race day.
How the race goes:
The 2 stickers you got will be 2 different colors and numbers, each represent the order of your heat in each bracket. We run heats of 3 sleds, with 1 winner, 2 losers. If you lose go to the spot man at the finish line and he will remove the proper sticker. once through the first bracket, we reset the start line, and continue with the same system. Lose 2 times and your out.
For staging for your heat. We will call out the numbers in order. 1st heat is 1,2,3 they race 4,5,6 then they race, and so on. Pay attention to your number, we will call it a few times then move on with out you if you are not ready. Don't show up to the line for your heat you lose that race.
We ask that you stage up behind the start line in you order to keep the race moving along.
This is a round robin race and continues like above till we get down to the semi finals and finals. Your numbers determine who you race. The lowest 3 numbers race that heat. Simple and fair and random.
There will be no time allowed for cool downs, fixes, repairs, etc. This is a unlimited trail sled race. If you can not line up when called you lose that heat. Make sure you have enough fuel for the trail ride and race.
Again, 1000' SNOW track. No rules other then you have to trail ride it to the lake. Trail ride will be around 20-30 miles.
THERE IS NO MONEY INVOLVED, AND NO ATTITUDES. This is for fun and a chance to meet everyone that shares the same interests.
Race starts by drop of the glove. if you jump the glove you lose that race.
Spotter at finish line has final say.
1st place wins a drink of there choice and a cheeseburger
And the trophy that they must bring back to defend next year!!
Any questions give me a call-609-496-4224
If you need info on Old Forge or Directions or lodging etc.--www.oldforgeny.com has all the info you need, or call me and I can direct you.
My father and I will be at slickers Friday night the 12th for any one to come out for a few drinks or questions, Then after the race I am planning something, still working on the place, but might have some food availible I will post more later when I have more info on that.

There will be road access to any of the lakes we would run on ,it just depends on conditions that day to determine which one,And Yes you can buy a trail permit but I don't believe they have a one day permit , more like one week permits

Turbor, why would you need people to bring gas?? Just wondering...
And I think you can get a weekend permit for Old Forge. Think its around 30 or 40 bucks per sled.

You can run any fuel you want to. The only rule is you must go on the trail ride to race.
This was all started and still is a "TRAIL" sled shoot out. Really a trail unlimited class so to say.
I personally run race fuel race day, I fill my tank, and trail ride to the race, race, then trail ride home. Others do to!!

Takes place in Old Forge NY. ,the actual lake is determined the day before the shootout depending on conditions. It is a trail sled shootout (run what you brung) open to anybody that completes the trail ride

You should be fine to do the trail run and race, even if you get into the finals. There is gas not to far from any of the race spots, You should be fine, if not there is tons of people that would be glad to help out.
Come on down this Feb. Its a blast. Nice and laid back!!!
