I have had mtn sleds too yes you need to gear them up for low elevation riding.
24/40 is common gearing for low altitude rx1's.
Your kind of missing the point though with theses short track sleds they already come with tall gearing.
No I dont think so as he is only asking to go up one tooth on the top and he had an extra 200 to 250 rpm of wasted power he could take advantage of I suggested he could gear up one and if his engine could pull it he would be fine or he could add more weight to his primary as you just suggested. In my case with the added weights with Turks clutching still left me over revving 300 rpms. I tuned my gearing to his clutching and in my case at least it worked out great. I do believe it would work for him as well IMHO. Maybe in the future he could do both and let us know the outcome.

It could be our snow contitions are completely different.
Most of the time we are on just a few inches of hard packed show/ice, run down in the center of the road.
In Pa wen it snows, it rains , and if we are lucky we will get sleet and freezing rain.
Than it gets worm , but the trails freeze up every night.
I don't run studds , so the clutch is'nt slinging that weignt around. Also the belt is only riding 3/8 from the top of the primary. ( I put lines on it with a Sharpy)
The clutch is cut for the overdrive (maybe that is "snake oil", dont know?)
If I could get that belt up on that"6th gear" I'd be livin LARGE!
I have a 22 gear ,just think that is going the wrong way on our snow conditions.
Don't you think the tourque of this engine is a huge advantage.
Thamks for your info

The whole idea of cuting a clutch for overdrive is so that you can gear down and keep your top end intact. If you are cut for overdrive then you should definately not gear up your Vec. You need more tip weight to bring down RPM and force the primary open all the way. I wouls imagine you have your secondary set up to allow itself to shift further as well?

Yea , thanks for the gear help, now how about weignts .... The service manual shows the LTX has 3.1 inner and middle , 3.8 outer weights. are we talking about 2 grams total, 2 grams each or .2 grams. I guess the quick answer is, what weights do i need, where do they go.

What is the part # of the current weight the Vec. uses? My RS Nytro used the 8ES weights. Have they gone to a different one with the fuelie? Basically you want to add about 2 grams to the flyweight at the point furthest from the pivot point. Find a rivet that weighs approx. 2 grams more. Remove the old (drill it out) and install the new. Yammie's three heaviest rivets are 3.1 gram, 3.6 gram, and 4.5 gram. If you have the 3.6 already in the tip, grab a set of 4.5's, and find some small flat washers that weigh about a gram. When you peen the rivet over do it with the washer against the weight, and that will net you the two grams you are looking for.

Too easy. Drill out old rivet, install 4.5 gram rivet with 1 gram washer added before you peen. That will get you approx. 2 extra grams of mass out at the tip of the weight.
