I just bought a 2011 apex xtx with only 1400kms. It seem like it needed a battery. Lower on the voltage side, and would only click when I hit the key switch. So went to switch it and it arched. So now I don’t have anything. I checked all the fuses( I think) tried a new starter relay. Still nothing. Where else should I check? I checked the fuses around the starter relay and all the ones up on the right hand side below the handle bars. Is there any thing I’m missing? Needing help on this. Thanks

When you turn the key, you should hear the fuel pump cycle and such. Did it ever do that before or after your battery swap and arch issue? Could possibly be related to the grounding blocks located throughout the wiring harness.

Yes before the arch the fuel pump would start and then click. Now nothing. Any idea where to start?

Would have suggested jumping the starter solenoid to see if it was the culprit for the no start but if now you're not getting anything when turning the key may need to break out a multimeter to see if you're getting power at the key switch and start there.

That was my thought as well. Went to grab the multimeter and the battery was low and wouldn’t read anything. I’m gonna grab a new battery and start there thanks.

How many volts should the starter take to roll over the engine? I checked the volts after the starter solenoid and I'm only getting 1-2 volts at the starter when I turn the key to start. TO me there should be 12 volts there unless something not allowing this to happen.

you should be getting what ever battery voltage is in the start position on both terminals of the starter solenoid. try jumping across it on the big terminals with a wire to see if it cranks over. if it does, starter solenoid is bad or not getting signal from ignition. it could be a bad cable or wire but it is pretty rare for a battery cable to go bad on a sled.

There is 12 volts on the one side of the starter solenoid and the other there isn’t. I changed out the solenoid with another I had on a different sled and it ran. No change. Does the wiring going into the solenoid cut power? The clip of 4 wires in the middle?

Careful swapping the solenoid from a working sled as it can be misleading when taking one from a 3 cylinder (ie. Vector) and installing it on a 4 cylinder; the solenoid appears identical but they are wired oppositely so if that was the case, just swap the wires around and try again.

@steiner wrote up a nice troubleshooting post regarding the solenoid so may want to review it for additional troubleshooting.

with the key held in the start position, it should have 12v on both terminals. if someone has done what Robx-1 is saying, the sled will not crank/have power on both terminals. lots of users have replaces the solenoid with an aftermarket one that does what rob is saying as most of the aftermarket ones are based on the rs model sleds solenoid. you might have a weird one that someone already did the mod to run the rs solenoid on your apex. was the donor sled an apex/attack/rx 1?
