Another no start/no power

odds are it broke a magnet loose. you can take it apart to check it but nobody fixes them that i know of. that one is pretty rusty.

For $195, might as well order a new one from Barn of Parts.;)!

Additionally, when I did mine, I had the oil tank off since I hadn't completed the oil change; only drained it. But you can still remove the two bolts and one nut and move the tank to the side/out of your way while still keeping the hoses (at least the bottom one) connected so as to not have to drain it. Otherwise, use a clean pan and reuse it.

Thanks @RobX-1

I have other questions relating to no power but not sure if I should start a new thread. There’s so many of them and I’ve spent hours reading them. So my one question is…when i turn my key I have nothing. So that’s not the starter but ironically it don’t work either.

From what I’ve been reading it can be my ignition switch or kill switch issue. Otherwise I’ve missed a ground block at the nose of the sled? Just got my hand/thumb warmers wiring harness from @Rockmeister and I can’t even test it out!!! Grrrrr

Someone else will have to confirm this but Yamaha changed how the cluster powers up after a certain model year. For example, the RX-1 cluster does not power up until its running but the 08 Apex will power up the cluster when the key is turned on.

Ugh so much more digging to do. Don’t think I even know what the cluster even is haha

When you turned the key, what were you expecting to see? The gauges to power on, right? Well, another term for gauges is the cluster and as I mentioned previously, some models did not power on the gauges/cluster until after the sled is running whereas the newer models do power on the gauges/cluster when turning the key to the on position. Although it would be nice to have a pull start option to verify your only issue is the starter, it would certainly be a challenge to do so; pull start it, that is.

The only thing I'm not certain of is if your 2006 Apex is one of those that should power on the gauges/cluster when the key is in the On position.

Yeah gauges….I’ve always been able to turn key and see how many kilometres are on the sled, fuel gauge, hear fuel pump etc etc. I have nothing. So I started with starter relay, the two ground blocks by clutch, checked all fuses, checked battery and now the starter.

Yup it used to always light up and show me the details. Magically nothing

I’ve seen connection problems with the terminals on the key switch assembly connector. The ignition wire may not be powering up due to poor pin contact within this connector, just another simple thing to check.

Thanks @Stubbs. Also I read the kill switch connection down at the bottom of the handle bars could be melted or bad connection. I need to check both of those for sure.

Ok, since gauges used to light up then there is still something not providing power. When you checked the grounding blocks, did you confirm all of them? Here's a post I created where I found a total of 6 on my 08 Apex and provide pictures.
