I got a 2011 XTX apex and I've raced cat turbos and ski doos nothing can touch it. NOthing handles better and never put a wrench on it yet. I'm tired of the bitching as well. best sled ever. Cat guys are stunned there turbos won't keep up. This sled just keeps pulling and pulling. Oh did I mention mine has EPS? lol!

When you take a close look at the 2011 Yamaha Apex, there can only be one conclusion. It has to be Snowmobile.com’s 2011 Snowmobile of the Year!best sled ever

I got to ride with him and a great group of others on the Manitoba TY ride and he was loving it. Carrying those pretty Curve skis all day long. LOL
Looks to be a great sled, not a 'snowcrosser' but a great trail sled. The comments about weight make think of Turks great quote, "where I am from we ride our sleds, we don't carry them".
That's what i always tell people when they say"there heavy huh"

Just picked up a 2013 XTX! 300 miles on it in a day and half. Will get a bunch on it this weekend! Leaving for the UP tomorrow afternoon. So far I really like the sled. It feels so light with the EPS. Incredible! I need to work on the suspension and get it the way I like it or I may have to get the shocks re-valved. Putting some HID's in and will be adding my hand guards and GPS. So far so sweet!

Sasquatch said:I really love this sled, the way it handles and rides. At first 95mph was top end. At 700 miles or so 104 mph was top speed. At 1,000 miles 106mph with a head wind. It just keeps getting faster and impressing me more all the time. Acceleration is fantastic and thrilling to say the least with great hook up on hard pack. Will smoke my old warrior with ease!
Transfer is all there for sure, it wants to pick the front end up, way up! I cut back on the transfer but wheelys are the norm for this skid. You can pound the hell out of it way past what I like to ride as I'm not a stand up rider. I did try standing and was impressed with how well it handled badly whooped trail. For touring it handles the chop quite well. Not as smooth as my ZX2 but well enough to ride at a fast pace with no lose of control. I find it to be an excellent trail sled.
It has inside ski lift with agressive 8 inch carbide shaper bars but unlike the Warrior it is very controlable. Reminds me of my old Cats how you can lift the ski and keep it in the air all around a corner without loosing bite or control. Course if you shift your weight to the inside ski comes down and stays down.
Coming up I will be able to try it out in some real deep powder and will see how that works out. In the little powder I've been in its handled it quite well. The ripsaw is not a deep snow track however.
Yami did a great job with the Apex XTX! I can find no faults with it so far! I just love the sled!

STOP BLINKING AT ME. kidding... Good right up, it makes it hard to chose. A ape or a viper.

The magazine guys would make you believe that a big heavy pig of a sled won't handle or ride very well but it rides just as good as the other guys and isn't near as tippy . I just finished a 4 day 1200 mile ride of northern ontario and quebec with a couple of guys with polaris pro ride 136 switchback adventures. They ride fairly good but in the studder bumps they have to slow down just like any other sled and in every sharp corner they have a ski in the air. The xtx corners very flat and is very predictable, never once did a ski come up in a corner. The thing I noticed on this trip is how many high mile riders ride yamaha four strokes. In quebec you would think they ride ski-doo, but most of the locals I ran into ride yamaha. I couldn't believe how many apexs I saw and most of them were xtx or ltx versions. Just goes to show you who yamaha builds its sleds for.

unless ones going to be breaking trail all the time..I think the 128 mono is far superior as a groomed trail scalpel than the xtx....the xtx feels long compared to the 128....the mono is plush in the stutters...the xtx firm..the xtx will shine on the biggest bumps...the tunnel adjuster closes alot of that gap....to me the standard is the best apex...
and to anyone comparing an 11-13 apex to the new viper....coming off a procross turbo...and now figuring a nytro motor slammed into that chassis...that sled will handle well...but the quality is sub par for now...kinda like comparing a base mustang to a ferrari

If the standard Apex is the best Apex than why are you selling your 2012 with no miles? Just curious to know what you're going be to replacing it with. Sorry to hear about your experience with the Procross turbo, but I feel that if Yamaha is going to be putting their tuning forks on the new Vipers that they are going to be up to Yamaha build and quality standards. Time will tell.

love my sleds, but fyi all sleds break
love both my sleds 07 gt and 2012 yamaha apex xtx. both run great, dont take them to the dealers, learn how to fix them yourselves, this forum is great for that. I have been sledding for 37 years now, they all break does not matter what you own. If you dont want to learn how to fix them yourself, and you have to take them to the dealer everytime, I think your in the wrong sport. try to find another sport.

if you really like the xtx stock try out the star suspension rear linkage kit, adds some more transfer and makes it more progressive. check out what the nytro xtx boys have to say about the kit.

I got another 450 miles on the new XTX. I cranked down the front shocks and that seemed to help out quite a bit with the inside ski tipping. Moved the adjuster block to the softest setting and that helped improve the ride on the rear skid.
Did wear out a set of slides in under 600 miles. Was not real happy about that considering the trails were in great shape. I did have a few miles of road riding and it was thin in some spots. But not that much! May have to try the new slides to see what those are like and see if there is a marginal snow kit for the XTX.

I'm also a big fan of the XTX !! I've beat on this sled from day one with little regard for it's well being . Keep in mind a groomed trail is rare around here . This sled is feared among my friends in the bumps , lakes and the trails . The hyfax issue is an ,, issue ! I replaced all my wheels with the Excell wheel kit. I lost 2 sets in 500km and now still riding on the regular hyfax with over 4000km's on them ,, the wheels were well worth it ! In my experience the marginal wheel kit from Yamaha is not ideal. They can be found all over the trails around here lol. They spin at least twice as fast causing bearing failure and then they fly off , never to be seen again ! The front end stays planted with the Ohlins so I can't comment on ski lift . COld starts were an issue but that seems to be fixed now with the Exup adjustment . With a few mods this things rails like a train and pulls like one too !
It's an awesome sled with very few faults ,,, It doesn't like to sidehill , steep inclines in the trees can get nervous when engine breaking lets go and freeruns , in the deep stuff you have to keep the front end up or your going down deep. I've lost one handwarmer and fouled one plug ,, I can live with that. oh ,,,and it doesn't like to get too far off the snow !! I was cathcing some air last weekend , snapped both limiter straps and bent both rear shock relay rods. One broke off before I made it home . All in all ,,, I'd buy this seld again in a hearbeat
