my low gas light comes on between 2 and 3 gallons left in the tank. When the fuel is low the light comes on and there is a tiny gas pump symbol on the gauge.

So to clarify, you have three lights on the right side of the cluster.
Top light is Low coolant temp light, middle is your headlight brightness light, and the bottom is the warning light. The warning light comes on to alert you, and additional info is displayed on the gauge. In other words if you are low on fuel, the bottom light comes on, and the LCD shows it's a low fuel condition.
If you have a temp light come, as they all do when warming up, the top light is lit. It should go out after warm up. If not, is that a bad temp sensor possibly? Double check it is the top light, and check the LCD display for further info. If it is, then it may make sense to refer to the service manual to determine where and how to test the temp sensor.
Good luck!
