I was waiting for someone else to try and set up the ride this coming season, but as of today no one has taken the bull by the horns and started a post yet, so I'll get one started. With some ideas from Marathon Dave, I have a plan, and we can see what everyone thinks of the idea. We have been talking about doing a bagger trip for a few years, but it has never panned out. For those who want to, we could leave from somewheres around my house(Westernville, Mapledale Rome area on a Wed. mid morning and snowmobile up to the Star Lake/Cranberry lake area. Stay at a hotel in that area and ride around that area from Thursday to Friday or Saturday, then ride back toward my area on Saturday or Sunday depending on what the popular opinion is. That way we do a bagger trip and get to ride the Cranberry Lake area for a few days. Those who do not want to do the bagger trip could just trailer up to Cranberry Lake area and stay at the same hotel, and ride with us while we are up there. There is a Ty member who goes by the name mr.pitstop(Nick), who lives in that area and will look into possible places to stay for us. He will also be our trail guide for the days we are up there. He should be chimming in on this post soon with some ideas. I know there are some dates from the regular NY TY riders who have certain days they can not make it. Most of these dates fall from Late January to Mid february do to other rides they are attending, or other obligations. I was thinking possible dates of Jan.12th-15th, Jan. 19th-22nd, Feb. 16th-19th, or Feb.23rd-26th. What does everyone think. We should come up with the dates soon, so we can get things rolling. I am open to other ideas. This is also open to riders from other states as long as you ride a Yamaha. Think SNOW!!!! Gordon

Should be a good year for a NY ride there are long sections of trail that have been widened and smoother out for some better riding this season.. Not that it was ever bad, just some sections that are heavily traveled... .. I have been riding the trails around Star Lake, Cranberry Lake, and Tupper Lake for close to 20 years and I have no problem being the tour guide for everyone. We can ride as fast or as slow as the group wants I'm really flexible.
I will get the rates for the local hotel/motels and post them up within a couple days, just give me some time to get the info.
Some useful websites for people considering this trip:
This is the local snowmobile clubs site, its currently under construction but should be fully functional soon. Its usually a good source for trail conditions and weather.
http://www.cranberrylakemountaineers.com/
This is one of the nicer places to stay in the area, right on Cranberry Lake in the middle of the trail system with good food and a huge lake to play on. Its more expensive but has lots of options including an apartment
http://www.cranberrylakelodge.com/
Heres a link to the stone manor motel/diners facebook page, I don't think they have a website. They are also in the middle of the trails system in Cranberry Lake but smaller rooms, off the lake=cheaper rates
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cranberry-Lake-NY/Stone-Manor-Motel-Diner/131999753497437
Fletchers motel, not far off the trail, about 4 miles west of Star Lake, and rates are like $50/night. Two people could split a room and only pay $25/night each if you don't mind being a couple miles off the groomed trail..

MORE INFO COMING SOON.......
Poor quality pic but heres a pic over my windshield at what all of our trails look like mid week/mid winter

Bagger trip to Cranberry/Tupper Lake areas sounds like a good starting plan. Hopefully enough snow to get us the entire way when we do decide the ride dates!. Can only ride around Tug Hill so many times and I am all about trying out some new areas.
Might I recommend getting Old Forge permits (if you dont already get them), that way going up through or coming back via Blue Mtn Lake/Indian Lk/Inlet/Old Forge is a possibility? If not (for the cheap-skates who want to avoid Old Forge), then Indian Lake down through Perkins Clearing into Speculator to Piseco towards Ohio, or from Piseco down towards the Salisbury Ridgrunner trails.? Just throwing the ideas out there.
PS. Guess reading this post was a good reminder to get my Old Forge permit.! Tonight is the last night to get a $65 pre-season permit (discounted $15 from normal $80 price).

I'm down with any of those dates. Maybe we should try to do it in Jan., snow permitting as probably a better chance for me to host a Marathon TY ride late Jan or in Feb. If you have parking room we could leave from your house Gordon. Otherwise are we allowed to do overnight parking at Mapledale bowling lot?? Heck, if snow is good from my house I'll just ride all the way

Overnight parking shouldn't be issue at bowling alley. I will be leaving from my house and meeting you guys somewhere on the trail depending which way we head.

I can probably park 3 tow vehicles in my lower driveway at my house. If need be someone could park in the parking lot on Smith Hill outside C-ville. Before we pick a definite date, lets give this post till the end of November and see what kind of input we get from other TY'ers.

Another thing we may want to keep in mind is I believe the weekend of Jan. 15-16 will be MLK holiday weekend. Seems most hotels feel they need to jack up the nightly rates starting Friday.

Usually our hotel prices are surprisingly cheap. There is also lots of parking in Cranberry Lake and Star Lake and inbetween if anyone is trailering up this far to meet and ride.. Im still looking into more info and I have a bunch of NYS trail maps if anyone needs them. January or February works great for me, just let me know what everyone else decideds.

Count me in as well. I'm not much of a trip planner or a tour guide, but certainly look forward to being a participant! I've been on several of these rides in years past and have met some great people along the way. The Team Yamaha camaraderie is second to none!
I'm open to any dates provided I can give work adequate notice. I've got prior plans for Jan 16th and possibly the 15th as well (and no it's not to celebrate MLK weekend). Looking forward to the upcoming season! Think snow!

I ride over to colton from time to time. Pinecone has great food and good prices on the lake. Perfect spot to stop for lunch. When I was younger I used to pride myself on being the first person down Cranberry Lake on a sled every winter. I've smartened up some and I don't go for that title like I used to..
