2024 Yamaha snowmobile releases, March 14, 2023


Here is a new ski published late last year. Kinda like the stryke ski, but adjustable without shims. Jeff Stoxen was one of the inventors. Wonder what sled this is for? Could only upload first page.

If this sled had powersteering on it I would be ordering one tomorrow as soon as ordering opens up!

If they offered that in a 146" 2.0" track, 40" mountain stance, I'd be ordering it too, but nope. AC didn't want to spend the cash on putting EPS on it and Cat only wanted to offer a ZR 7000 so that's all Yamaha gets. A repainted ZR 7000. It seems to me outside of very limited Sidewinder differentiated versions you only get what Cat will build for their own line with these 4 stroke sleds.

In fact, in the case of the Riot 9000 EPS the AC version is actually better then the Yamaha version which does not offer EPS.

Well, looks like she's getting a new EPS Winder! Only a few grand more and a much better machine.

I wished my wife still rode. She used to hang right with the boys, but now won't go anymore because she hates the cold.
Ha ha, same here with my wife! Probably why she dragged you to Florida when we had a snow storm. LOL!
 
This is who I was talking about. Wonder what his new job really is? Hard to believe he isn't working with cat on something. Nothing in the last few years really needed any engineering other than the stryke ski and eps.

EPS on these sleds was developed by Cat. I'm not sure about the ski. Could have been a contracted development situation with an accessory like a ski.

I'm sure they still need one product specialist on staff to work through technical issues and possible recalls with their supplier. The Yamaha R&D department in Minoqua, Wisconsin was shut down soon after the Sidewinder launch. That was basically Yamaha's last major engineering project they worked with Cat on.

The Viper is way overpriced for the package it comes with. Should be no more than $12,000 for that sled.
 
Looks like the graphics department forgot to put the L in triple.
I guess we can call it a 137 trip.
The ProCross tunnel is super tough to wrap around those braces. My viper doesn't read real well either.

I think 12 is a little low for how things are right now, but if its in the 125hp class which is 600cc then the others are in the 13-14 range. Maybe could skirt the high side back in the day, but the name is definitely not carrying to premium price tag anymore, and its nuts that the marketing group doesn't realize that.

I remember hearing about that years and year ago. I didn’t realize how the snow division was organized and what impact that had on them. A month or two ago I Google Earthed the Minolta facility and yeah, it makes sense now how they don’t develop squat. They had an oval track and test trails there. Pretty nice layout for R&D. I almost thinking it was after the Viper release and the agreement was Cat was announced that one of my connected buddies told me they were done. All the way back then they were starting to shut things down, move staff to other projects. He knew they had a very expensive, turbocharged sled in the works but it wasn’t anything that appealed to me so I had no interest. Looking back on all of this now with 20/20 hindsight and recent info and actions I’m actually shocked they are still selling any type of sled with a Yamaha sticker on it.

The Viper has always been choked off due to the exhaust system having to make a U-turn and wrap around the head to be a front exit. Then with the non Yamaha EFI programming, the Viper has always been slower than both the Nytro and 1050 Vector. I remember seeing quite a few Vipers in my area when they first came out in ‘14 but none since. Yamaha did a great job on their graphics and paint as they looked awesome. And I recall they looked a little different than the Cats and used Yamaha clutches. Kinda crazy how things have kept sliding more and more to just being blue Arctic Cats as time went buy.

Jeff was one of the team of 4 i think for the ski it was designed in R & D in wisconsin an they just got the patten fo it.
