Hello all. Anyone having any run issues with 3 gallons or less in the fuel tank?AND OR say about 85-90 miles on a tank? I have a theory as to what happens to mine and wondering if anyone has hesitation/ popping like a backfire/ knock lights on hard pulls. Or say starting and stopping fast with hesitation? I do not have a AFR gauge on mine but would love to run one with 3 gallons or less in my tank. Getting sloshing issues on mine IMO. Did a hard pull and was down on RPM and saw knock flash. This sled is tuned from day one with 9000 miles on it. It’s not the tune as it runs awesome with more then 3 gallons of gas. I usually never get to low on fuel but have recently. Had issues so we replicated it and sure enough it’s like clock work. Does it every time. It’s not octane related I can assure. As I have stopped and dumped TORCO in. Still does it. Every time with 3 gallons or less. My theory is the fuel pump is sucking air because the fuel is sloshing badly to the back of tank.

I currently have the same problem. I have 9500 miles on my 2018 Sidewinder. When in the Gaspe last week, it started surging and would not go over 35 to 40 MPH. Got to a Yamaha dealer in Pabos, QC. They replaced the fuel pump as they said they ran into this before. Since then, with the new pump, I cannot let the tank get below the 90 mile level, about the 1/3 mentioned here. This is not acceptable as the tank is only 9 gallons. It quits going downhill after it backfires, then starts up right away, and runs until a curve or downhill or following a group of sleds ahead of me and I have to go 20 MPH. I have taken out the pump and sending unit and put pinch clamps on the filters to keep them flat and not twisted, then repositioned them in the tank. I will mention to my dealer about the return line and tank vent check valve.

Heading up Wednesday for a week. Should get some riding in. Will report back on results. I’m going to run it down and see.As you have suggested and KNAPP. This is what I will try first. If it still happens then it will be new fuel pump. I removed pump and checked things out tonight. NOT seeing anything that’s off or catches my eye. One thing I did notice and guys have talked about is I still had the older RED return part on the front of the tank. Some guys were drilling this out. I did use the updated part for my reroute back.

sounds like the original problem was the roll over valve frozen and they replaced the pump and did something wrongI currently have the same problem. I have 9500 miles on my 2018 Sidewinder. Did you just do the return line, or did you end up doing a pump too?Heading up Wednesday for a week. Should get some riding in. Will report back on results. I’m going to run it down and see.
Trailmaster when the dealer replaced the fuel pump did they replace just the pump or the whole pump assembly?

Just return line. I have a pump if need be. I don’t feel it’s the pump. But we will see. I’m going to try and run it under 3 gallons again and see if symptoms continue.Did you just do the return line, or did you end up doing a pump too?

Use a fuel injection clamp or similar. No pressure in that hose really. Just return line from fuel rail.

Use diagonal cutter to get old one off. Careful not to damage hose. The original clamp is an Oetiker clamp (https://www.oetiker.com/). Nice clamps but not made for taking off easily. Cannot re-use them.

Why is the Precision fuel pump upgrade so much more then the TD or Hurricane kit?
DooZ
TY 4 Stroke Junkie
The TD kit is only a pump and a small section of fuel line. The Precision kit is more involved with a new pump, billet fuel cap, return line, and regulator. All nice stuff, but they are awfully proud of it for that price IMOWhy is the Precision fuel pump upgrade so much more then the TD or Hurricane kit?
