Friend has a 2011 apex and is going through slides like crazy. 3000 miles first set, 3-400 miles on second set and 40 miles on third set. We were not in the best of conditions, but the other sleds in the group showed no signs of wear. Any ideas on his problem? Thanks

Track was not to tight. The second set were graphite and the third set were Yamaha. A bit over an inch of free hang on the track.

They will do that then stay there forever. i wore a set on my 09 nytro to the lines in 10 miles then stayed there for the next 1500.
tons of info on this if u searched 1st.

They don't all stop wearing at a certain point, mine made it through to metal in 300 miles with a fairly loose track. I tightened the limiter strap and that helped a bit.

The slides were wore all the way through at the bend. The limiter strap tightening might be a good start. We were thinking something wrong on the track?

I cant believe people still dont do the basics to keep the slider wear down to a minimum. Go into snow off the trail as much as safely possible and like Turk says they will wear to a point and stop wearing down provided you keep dipping into the snow as much as possible.

track was too tight. thats where it wears when it,s too tight.
I have to run my RTX with a real tight track or else it ratchets bad & yes that did cause it to wear at the bend. I shortened the limiter strap as well as put the small marginal snow wheel kit right in the middle of the wear spot & as of now, with about 1,000 miles has no noticeable wear. I also replaced the skid with slightly larger idler wheels but I am not sure if that had any effect on the premature wear at the bend.
My track only has 3/8" free hang.

INSTALL BIGGER WHEELS!!! Problem solved. Excell has bolt on ones, see Ullmer.

The track was not to tight and he was off the trail and into deep snow constantly. We were also wondering about the track clips and will check them, but seems unlikely that he would have bad clips on both sides......

I'm surprised to hear that the first set lasted 3000 miles and the last set only 40. I would thoroughly check the suspension to see if there is something out of wack, maybe even broken. Check idler wheels, limiter straps, torque arms, cross shafts, shocks, track glides, track clips, anything that might be bent, broken or missing. Something aint right.

Yamahas are reknown for excessive slider wear, just try a search on this forum and you'll see how many have experienced the same issue. Larger idler wheels are the cure.
