8jp versus 8dn belt

What is involved in machining the clutches. Other than Ulmer I haven't seen or heard of anyone here in Canada.

It really doesn't seem like this should be one of the great mysteries of life, but there is so much variation in the experiences of different riders that it surely seems that way! Is there that much variation between sleds, or belts, or riders? I am a trail rider, riding 100-200 miles a day, and pretty heavy on the throttle when trails and conditions allow. After my sled broke in, I was seeing 94+ mph on the speedo, and the gps, on straight flat runs and good conditions. I was still seeing that on the last run of the season in mid-April. After 2300 miles, my 8jp has left some belt dust in the belly pan, but it looks great. Did I just "get lucky" and get a good belt, and a good sled? I just put on an OSP adjuster, but I am beginning to think that maybe I should have left it stock because I probably won't be able to adjust it as well as it came from the factory!

Yet even you had belt dust, that dust is in your clutch bushings also and you will eventually if not soon have to clean them when they start binding. If you can buy a belt half the price of that one that does not dust your engine compartment why would you not run it?

Stingray 719 have you used the xs825? If you did have you seen any better response from it?

No I have not. The fact it is twice the price of the 8DN will probably keep me from doing so. The point I was trying to make is a belt would have to be twice as good as the 8DN to get me to run it, and I do not think anybody is saying the xs825is twice as good.

Dave Marshall does at hurricane I went mine there to get done 2 months ago, waiting for snow tho to test them out! Prb looking at a 2 week turnaround depending on shipping ...

I run the Dayco XTX5033 its 8DN length but grips a little better than 8DN. Allows me to run less wind on secondary. Not as grippy as Gates but about in between. Also had some concern of 8DN wearing grooves in clutch faces with real high miles. Have seen that on Nytros. Always had good luck with the Ultimax which this belt replaces on my SRX. So I guess what can be concluded is you can use a belt to fine tune clutching but then stick with one or you will be tuning forever.

If I want to try a 8DN do I need to have my clutchs machined or can I just try it on my clutch's the way they come from the factory?

Yamaha belts are very durable but I find them very hard with no grip. I have been running the gates 8jp since my sled was new with minimal belt dust. The gates grips far better than the stock belt and I have found no reason to switch to the 8DN and I had quite a few lol as I owned a 08 nytro. Everyone's experience will be different as will their setup on their sleds.

Nytro40th, same thing for me. Tested the 8DN but the results were not what most people see here. Better feel and top speed with the 8JP. Anyway there was very minimal dust in the pan and the belt is 2 years old with more than 6000km. Never blown a belt on that sled. Would like to ty the Gates through, but do not know if I should use the 8JP or 8DN equivalent.

Try the gates 8jp gforce, it works for me. If your running a turbo perhaps get the gforce c12 with carbon fibre.
