I know there are loads of posts about what people are planning on or are running but I am looking to
get clear opinions on the benefits between 96 and 144 studs. So far i am leaning towards 96 so that I don't get as much push in the corners. What are your thoughts?

I'm doing the same as what your leaning to. Did half track last weekend and will finish this weekend

Another reason I am leaning to 96 is I don't want to stud over the quiet pads. I was talking to the Woody's rep
at the big east show. He mentioned cutting them off but I don't think I want to get into that.

They cut off ez (the quiet lugs), I feel 96 is recipe for disaster with power sled has. That’s way to few and it will end break or pull out of the track because they are over loaded. That’s your prerogative tho. I’m thinking 3 a row minimum.

I havea pair double backers on every other row and a pair of singles in the other row. I will be putting singles on the outside row with the other singles so I have four studs in every row. Much needed for all the power this thing has.

96 is only 2 per bar, that is really understudded and asking for trouble unless you only go with short studs....but I would never go less then 144 or 2-4-2-4 pattern which I like, and is 136 on my RTX track length.

Toms LTX, works well with little push, staying in center helps-144 1.450

I too think that's a ridiculously small amount of studs for this monster of a machine. Unless you plan on riding it like it's a 340cc beginner sled, you're going to rip those studs out like they're toothpicks.

If you're going to stud, I wouldn't go anything less than 144(LTX), or 136(RTX). Preferably more though.

The more studs there are...the less stress on each one. And of course...it all needs to be balanced and well placed/decent pattern. But 96 studs is something you'd put in a 550cc liquid cooled muscle sled of the early 1990's,
Not a 205 HP monstrosity such as this!!

But that's Just my opinion of course.

I was on the 144 train but I talked to my trusted parts manager at my dealer who rode the dealer demo with 96 (at his option) last year with about 3000 km. He said he wanted to reduce push in the corners and have that little bit of slide in the corners so that it wasn't pushing so hard. The premise is sound in my opinion after running that on my vipers, also my other thought is ... really if there is track spin on a 130 hp sled or a 200 hp sled studs will fail regardless if your stay on it hard...if you don't let off the the throttle and feather it accordingly it would be the same result... Am i wrong ?

I go three per row 144. And it's really not enough. Good for safety on icy trails. That's it. If I was ice racing or drag racing at all I would have a lot more and longer.

Remember not to line up your studs with the tunnel protectors

I will be going with 2 per row on 1.5 Ripsaw or Storm 150. Studs don't help in loose snow and 1 don't ice race. 2 per row should be fine to stop on ice and climb those icy hills. If you are blowing the track out all the time on ice, then add more. Trails studs don't work very well in ice racing anyway.

I ran 144 last year on my 137, I would say that is a minimum amount for this sled. I try to avoid to much throttle at lower speeds, spins this amount with ease.
For trail riding is enough for safety. all I was looking for

Did you run them all down the middle?

I've set up 3 sidewinders with 144 down the middle. All 137 1.25.

Everyone is happy with it for trail. Lots of grip but not too much in the corners

96 is way under studded...144 min with short studs and personally all either double backers (can cause vibration) or oversized backers ESPECIALLY ON A RIP1 !!!....and forget the trusted parts manager....push is mostly the skis and condition and or suspension settings.....I dont push and look at mine....192 x 1.640's
