Exactly right. Push has more to do with ski pressure and weight transfer.96 is way under studded...144 min with short studs and personally all either double backers (can cause vibration) or oversized backers ESPECIALLY ON A RIP1 !!!....and forget the trusted parts manager....push is mostly the skis and condition and or suspension settings.....I dont push and look at mine....192 x 1.640's

Studding is so subjective. What are you doing with the sled, how and where do you ride and what do you want out of it? All questions only the rider can answer.

OPS I think you have your mind made up with 96. IMO, go with your gut if you don't you will always second guess yourself and that sucks. Like Stain said its subjective and everyone's riding style differs. There are guys on this site that ride the winder unstudded as do a couple people I know that have ridden for decades and never studded a sled. If you set it up right and no how to ride you don't need to stud as they say. studs do lead a bit of push though. If you go with 96 I'm sure you can add more if you need to.

If you stay in middle the push is less intrusive. Push for guys where we live/ride is a big thing, as we have many tight trails. If I did not live/ride in Muskoka I would be studding outers and longer studs too. So I have to compromise to get my sled for my area where its overall where I want it.
The tough thing about 2per bar, is now if you want to go up to 3 per bar, your pattern is not as easy unless you go to outers,Which from sound of you being concerned about push you dont want to do IMO.
So you may want to take careful consideration if you are set on 96, for adding more. What I personally dont like is you would have a hard time going to a 2/4/2/4 pattern from that 2/bar pattern.
Since you brought up push a few times, you should be thinking about skis, to go along with studs...as the stock skis should be removed day one IMO. See the pilot 6.9 thread.
Studding is one of those very subjective things that we all tend to do our own thing.

The issue is the skis not the number of studs. But curves or c&a razors will fix your push issue. I had 144 studs in my zl440 cat when I was 15 back in 96-97. Honestly it will push with 0 studs with tuners on anything but hard packed or Icy trailsI was on the 144 train but I talked to my trusted parts manager at my dealer who rode the dealer demo with 96 (at his option) last year with about 3000 km. He said he wanted to reduce push in the corners and have that little bit of slide in the corners so that it wasn't pushing so hard. The premise is sound in my opinion after running that on my vipers, also my other thought is ... really if there is track spin on a 130 hp sled or a 200 hp sled studs will fail regardless if your stay on it hard...if you don't let off the the throttle and feather it accordingly it would be the same result... Am i wrong ?

Ok thanks for the input guys. I have never had a chance to ride one of these so I was not sure what to expect. I think I will go for the 144 since it seems to be
the consensus.
I have been thinking about skis as well. Leaning towards the Pilots but am open to Curves just want to make sure I don't get darting, like I had on the singles I had on my Apex and 14 Viper.
the consensus.

Any issues with the longer studs? Last season had 144 x 1.325", ordered up 144 x 1.575" Triggers for this year. A little nervous about hitting something but I do have the tunnel protectors.
