A couple of weeks ago I had the Stealership throw some colored slides on my Nytro XTX (What can I say, I like to accessorize). On the first run with them on I could smell them burning pretty good. Bieniek, who also put colored slides on his RTX SE at the same time, noticed that 20 miles into our ride, his slides were already worn down quite a bit.

So tonight my brother and I decided to take a short 35 mile trip down to Proctor for some grub. As I was finding a good spot to park my sled, BAM! The slides melted to my track. 60 miles on the new slides and they're already junk! Not to mention I probably took a little life off the belt.

Moral of the story, stick to black, hi-performance slides.

I have blue ones on both of my Rx1's, they are the same brand as the black ones I use to use. I never noticed a difference. They're pretty worn down by the end of the season with roughly 1,000-1,500 miles on them so I replace them every season.

That's odd though. I had roughly 1500 miles on my original slides and never had any issues. This is the first time I've ever had slides melt to my track! and I've been riding for many years now.

Were they Yamaha OEM or Sno Stuff etc junk., also your dealer could have put Apex on there it is a narrrower hyfax , correct me if i am wrong.

Track to tight , running on ice , full moon ,,, could be a lot of things when you let other mitts on your ride.

I only run OEM.

you have to run slow and in good snow for plenty of miles after new slides, especially if you haven't added wheels. example, guys tend to want to replace before a trip. that is the wrong time, needs to be done and used slow with plenty of stops and some off trail

sliders

I don't understand all the hype about sliders melting...I own a "06 Apex. When I bought it it had about 5000k...I installed a set of rail spring type scratchers and a new set of hyfax...I presently have 8000k and still using the same KIMPEX hyfax.. The answer to hyfax issues is a good set of ice scratchers. If I think the snow is getting hard, I stop and kick the scratchers out. Some rides I leave them out all day...My buddy has a "09 Nytro rtx and if we are riding and he doesn"t use the scratchers he is burning the hyfax..He stops, unhooks the hyfax and he is good to go..No more smell..

colour sliders burn faster due to the dyes used to colour them....white are the best and yamaha dealers sell them...

There might be some validity to these statements...I think it originated from the white sliders that Polaris first used back in the 90s.

Last season, I put 800 km on my Apex's stock sliders and they were nearly toast. During the off season, I replaced them with the white Yammy sliders, as the Dupont sliders were back ordered again. After 3000 km this season, the white sliders still have plenty of meat on them and I may not even have to replace them in the off season...a first for any Yammy I've owned.

Granted, conditions do play a huge factor, scratchers help, as well as dipping into any available snow while road running.

Nothing new happens all the time......you have to put bigger wheels in....excell wheel kits work good so does Schmidt bros,,,,pioneer performance

No big wheel kit just marginal snow kit on the front and a set of cable scratchers on the rails and I'm good to go. I've got 3200+ miles on original sliders with 14 mm showing in the worst spot. That is two years of riding and I probably didn't need to buy the DuPont sliders last to put on when the original ones wore out. I'm not sure when they might go!

By the way the scratchers only need to make contact with the snow-ice to work really well, you don't need a lot of down force to kick up the lube! I usually run with mine in the down position unless there is fresh snow or when I load and unload the trailer.

First ride after putting black hi performance on my wife's sled the track locked hard as well.

Conditions had more to do with it. Hard pack road shoulder running with no cool down snow before stopping to talk. Locked her right up.

There might be something too this. I put on a new set of blue hyfax that I bought at my dealer at the beginning of the season. Two rides and 500 miles later, I think the pictures say it all. My skid has oversize Excel wheels and low snow wheels up front. G.B.
