Has anyone done a performance comparison between these two primary clutches?

Has anyone done a performance comparison between these two primary clutches?
I'll be playing with a Tapp this winter on my 21 Thundercat. I can say that I gained about 4 mph on top end and 1000' radar runs with just replacing my Team clutch with an Adapt

Giving the pb80 a try this year after going through two team.primaries.

Has anyone set up a TAPP on a 998 with the stock AC secondary? I am looking for the offset spec with that combination.

Why switch from Yamaha secondary? Nothings wrong with that. Team clutches have struggled though. I have a pro 4 on the way myself. And a brand new Yamaha secondary ground up build

I would probably use the Yamaha secondary if I had one. My Tcat has a cat secondary. I have not changed it. I want to test making one change at a time. It is easier for me to work changes that way. On my 1100 mod stock, I put the TAPP on and went to a Pro4 secondary at the same time. Hopefully someone put a TAPP on a 998 with the stock secondary and a good offset number to work from.

if you have a TAPP that is shimed for yamaha belt, the offset from peek of inner sheave of TAPP to peek of outter sheave (where belt rides) of BOSS is 52.5mm... if you are using a XS829/827 belt... then offset is 53.5mm ....measuring this way eliminates the variance's in sheave thickness from all makes of clutchs.

Got ya, yea I had secondary bolt and adjuster come out and knock my primary mid winter then my replacement primary shed all the weights and took secondary with it. So pro4 4 weight and a brand new Yamaha secondary for me. I considered tapp but was pushed toward pro4, told tap is great but the weights are cams like a skidoo tra vs the flyweight set up. But that’s mainly it. For you to change secondary’s you would need new Jack shaft as cat an Yamaha splines we’re different

the boss wrks great with TAPP... you might just want the next heavier spring in it with teflon washers.

I dont know how those 2 compare and I dont have any experince with the team primary on the 998 either butI will say this.... last winter I tried many secondary setups that others used with sucess on the team primary and those same setups with the adapt didnt work well at all, even on my wifes sled. She is light weight and not a real aggressive rider and tons of belt slip soon as conditions werent rock hard. I started to wonder if the adapt shift force and general characteristics were different and thats why none of the known working setups didnt work. Speaking with Ron Ward he said the adapt put down much better power on the track dyno then the team did so Im assuming thats why I didnt see similiar results. The factory adapt helix 58/49 progressive slips bad even with torsional conversion wound up tight. The previous 58/49.15 compound cut was an improvement but slipped bad as well. Even with an ultimax belt it would slip to the point that I would feel it chattering like something was coming apart on the sled. Best results were with lower helix angles. The tapp will be a more durable clutch for sure and I would think has better grip due to its design but hard to say without a direct comparison. My adapt held up beautifully last winter though with a billet cover installed from new. 3300 miles on my sled and everything is as tight and quiet as the day I picked it up. The cover is definetly a weak spot.

Thank you kindly for sharing the photo and advice. Much appreciated.

That is a neat hack for quick measure
Thanks for sharing it
