All suspension updates.

Just got back from the UP. Rear shock at soft and FRA at Full worked well. Less bottoming and softer. New 04' seat should help. I followed the front and still had ALOT of ski lift. It feels like a AC up front with a little more weight behind it. I will play with it, but I am VERY glad I didn't replace both skid shocks.

LB --Thanks.

New Heavier--not sure of the number(Hacker's Yamaha package--factory yamaha springs though). 12mm swaybar. All the way soft on the spring preload. 10inch woodys with factory ski.

I can live with the ride at this point, but I don't think the swaybar and springs helped the lift. It may though be more predicatable then the old swaybar and links.

Yamaha has 3 springs; 100, 110, and 120. The typical aftermarket springs are 130 and 140. If you went with the shorty springs, I believe that they are the middle ones, 110. May be somewhat soft.

The difference to the front end should be night-day. I noticed a huge improvement from *just* the links.

They are the 120's and I already have the longer links from last year. I will try increasing the spring pressure this weekend and see what it does. It is better then it was last year.

I adjusted my sled to Lazybasterds settings and my ski lift disappeared. I found that I could still get ski lift if I sat way back in the seat and still will get "normal" ski lift in a sharp turn or when adding power in a turn, but not as much as before.

I also put shims under the ski pads to ellimunate darting--thats gone and I put rubber pieces in the progressive part of the front springs.

HEY LB,

Im about the same weight as you and have an 03 121". Im going for all your setting suggestions and I will be trying it out next weekend. Can you tell me what you normally do for your traction rod settings? Mine is on stock now. Also, for the limiters, I can only see about 3/4" of the bolts left above the top nut (about an 1" if you include the nut). Is this correct?

Im running the stock 1" finger track and no studs.

Hi Lazy,

How do you suggest adjusting front skid shock?. How far from where the threads start to the bottom of the nut are you? Or how long is the spring at your adjustment. Thanks , I am going to try your settings Wed.

I never really measured it, and its at the dealer's now due to exploded track. Really, I just loosened it off until it wasn't so damned *tight*. When you twist at the spring with your hand, it should be able to rotate somewhat. As a rule of thumb, whatever compression you add by sucking in the limiters, let it off the preload.

I'm definitely OK, didn't even know the track popped until looking it over when putting it away. Unfortunately, same can't be said about the track, OR, the right transfer rod (strangely enough, independant events, the transfer rod did NOT break the track.)... Trying for a 9923 (144" ripsaw) as replacement, and an MP option2 extension kit. With the option2 kit, the suspension mounts are moved backwards, so on hardpack, the same amount of rubber will be on the ground as a Warrior, just further back (which should give better leverage for steering).

Suspension updates

Okay, I'm convinced. I'm going to update my front suspension on my 03 shorty. I'm going to add the straight rate springs, longer links and a 12mm sway bar. My question is should I buy these parts from Yamaha or should I buy them from Pioneer Perf. (for all I know they may be the same parts). I know Pioneer had problems with their sway bars breaking last year. If the reccommended path is to get them from Yamaha, does anyone have the part nos.? (My dealer makes a lot of mistakes with part nos.)

Thanks to all and happy sledding!

RX1Jim, just buy the parts from Pioneer Performance, Bruce should be able to give you tips on how to set it up that your dealer can't. Sway bar problem has been fixed. Depending what springs you get, some are Yamaha, some are aftermarket. Make sure to ask him if there are any sale prices in effect on the front springs, I seem to recall there being one this month.
