Yes I agree. How did the suspension adjustments work out? Better or worse?

The ride is a lot more "plush" and it still corners good so I have high hopes. It definitely rides different from the stiff front and rear that I put 4k miles on. As long as I can corner and not bottom out on jumps I will leave it. It might save my sore back. I only did one pass after the suspension adjustments and it could have been slipping on ice but it felt like it was harder to get the 101. It sat at 99 for a long time while going uphill and then I tucked tighter and then got the 101. It could have been a lot of variables but I feel it didn't take that much to get up there any other time. May have been less or more track on the ground at higher speeds due to the softer front spring in the skid. IDK. My max rpm was also the highest of the day on the uphill AND downhill at 9237 but I never felt it hit the limiter. I did feel it earlier in the day on takeoff and that max rpm was only 9214.
 

So it should be noted then that while I could hit 91-92 I could not hold it and the RPM was definitely inconsistent. Rounding the curve I would hit a spot that I could feel the drag release it would build speed then I could feel the drag come back on again and speed would drop.

Allen and Tom have some ideas to try. Looking forward to it.

TD that 51 trail is a rush! Very fast. Definitely on my short list of trails to hit this year again. Tomahawk to Wausau. Totally different than Tomahawk to Summit lake which is very technical but a heck of a lot of fun too!

I bet with softer front shocks your #*$&@ is up higher. My fastest position is sitting back butt on back of seat and tucked down. Yes suspension definitly does affect your speed. Alot. Once you find that sweet spot in center shock it will be only thing you need to adjust for that little edge. Tighter for speed.

What more could you possibly expect out of this sled??? Are you asking for this sled to consistently run with Apexes? - Because it won't do it.

I beg you to to the math and prove to me that I am wrong. With the gearing ratio of 24/50, a 2.86 pitch driver with 9 teeth, 920o rpm and a clutch ratio of 0.95 ... your max speed will be 102 mph!!! The only way to gain even more speed is to get beyond 0.95 ratio on the clutch which is not possible unless you machine the primary. And if you did that, you will need perfect conditions and MORE HP! I'm sorry, but I just don't get this unending quest for a top speed that doesn't exist.

I for one am trilled that my sled will do 'the ton' in excellent conditions. And I can honestly say that for the riding that I do, I can actually hit that speed less that 5% of the time because I don't have trails that will allow me to run those speeds.
 
Thanks to all! My son and I had a great time seeing what was going on and learning many things. What a great group of guys and girls that were there to help with anything.

First thing we did was take out the Viper LTX SE for a run down the railroad grate. Stock everything. Consistantly ran 96mph GPS. My son ran a stock 2006 Attak with 11,000 miles on at 101mph. We started testing the COTC on the Viper and kept hitting the rev limiter hard. After 4hrs of testing we saw a speed drop do to hitting the limiter. Never got where we needed but, with all the learning from yesterday I can now make the appropriate adjustments. Not sure if I will be able to get faster with COTC but, it will be fun trying.

I gotta agree, and I think that stock gearing is a big hindrance on the viper. Like stated stock gearing isn't good for much over 100 mph, I do know that if you have the power you can pull a bit of overdrive, cannondales 106 mph run is a good example of that, but u need the power and more importantly u need a perfect long hard smooth track, which rarely exists. Stock sleds, even with a clutch kit are not going to pull any overdrive, they just don't have the power. I put the xtx gearing in my turbo viper (ltx se) so I believe it'll be 5+ mph faster than stock gearing. It pulls just as hard if not harder with the taller gearing as it did with stock gearing. $150 for xtx gearing and chain, new from yamaha. Would love to see an n/a guy try it out! TD are u still using stock gearing in the le? If so any interest in trying 24/50 gearing? I have my gears and chain, they're yours if u want something else to test to see if u can get more out of it.
 
I might take you up on that. My gearing is still stock 21/49

Weasel says his at 24/50 didn't really lose much of any spunk.

Ya I'm sure it'll still be just a snappy, I'd say with stock le gearing and running 90+ mph you're pretty well shifted out. Clutch machining could get u more, but I'm thinking that it'll take more power to get that extra few mph from overdriving the clutches, compared to getting a few more mph from just taller gearing. People that do top speed runs gear the sled really high so that it can't reach overdrive since it takes more power to make that work. PM me your name and address and I'll send the gears and chain right out to u to give it a shot.
 
My plan is to see the clutching through to the end so that there is a resolution. That way others will benefit as well.

Just handy to have gearing parts in my hip pocket if there comes a time of need.

It's fine with me if you dont get it. Just consider it my hobby. I also saw 5 other Vipers out there that are obviously looking for more speed. If not they wouldnt have spent a dime on mods. Maybe I am taking your statement the wrong way and maybe you are trying to help by showing the math if so Thank You. I am in process of ordering gearing myself hoping to make all the mods work BETTER.
