When inserting the the elbows into the filter, is anything needed to provide a good seal? and this one probably really sounds silly, but what hold's the kit in place, and from falling out?

Vin,

Because there was a little play between the collar of my elbow and the pre-filter/grommet, I originaly put an o-ring between the collar of the elbow and the pre-filter for a snugger fit. Recently, I replaced the o-ring with an over-sized black rubber washer, which seems to snug up the elbow/grommet connection nicely and should make for an even better seal than the o-ring and should help reduce stress on the pre-filter opening.

Needed? Who knows, but I can't see how it would hurt.

You should use 2 3/4 inch grommets. These grommets are the type that have 2 levels if you will. There is a grrove on the outside circumferally that measures 3/4". The total O.D. of the grommet is about 1.0". You cut a 3/4" in the center of the front wall of the filter. What I did was I sharpened a 3/4" piece of stell tubing on the lathe so it basically became a 3/4" rounds razor. I then take a block of wood cut to fit inside the filter and prop it up so the bottm edge of the filter is suspended off the table. I then hit the steel tube with a hammer and it cuts a perfectly clean hole.

Inserting the elbow into the grommet then expands the I.D. of the grommet, thereby expanding the O.D. and sealing it tight.
