I know this may sound crazy, but I encountered this often and as Doowithblue said the snow was soft. I find that my tuners with snow trackers stick to the snow often when I park in soft, deep and wet snow. I'm in the habit to rock the sled every time to make sure that the skis are not stuck and away I go without the using up my belt.
Ditto to all the above.

I know I have a bad habit of locking the track at speed and sliding to a stop, and the belt didn't have time to downshift in the driven so the thing will rev next time as the belt is loose. Maybe squeal too...lol.
