I just bought an 05 RS Vector with 5800 miles. I already own a 04 Warrior and had the speedo drive shaft bearing go out on me last year at around 5000 mile mark. The drive system looks the same on the RS. Just wondering if they have the same bearing trouble and if I should be replacing it before winter comes.

just finished cleaning and repacking these bearings on my brothers 06 vector GT (both of us new to sledding), he picked it up used (NOT abused) with 1800 miles on it. i don't believe the bottom bearing would have made it through the season we caught it just in time while doing the cam chain tensioner. also if this tensioner hasn't been done to your sled you should definitely look into it.

* all 4 bearings should be changed (2 - jackshaft and 2 - main)

* exhaust donuts checked and likely changed

* Cam Chain tensioner changed (catatrophic failure if it goes)

* check for broken welds in rear suspension

* check for worn front end bushings

Have 8000 miles on both my 06 Vector an 05 Warrior. Have not shanged a main bearing yet other than the idlers. However, I do pop the seals off the jackshaft and driveshaft bearings at the end of each season and pump in a high quality marine grade grease in. If the season is long I''ll do it mid season as well. Much easier to grease than to replace. If exhaust is overly loud, exhaust donuts probably done. If changing the exhaust donuts you might want to change the cam chain tensioner at the same time, as you need to disassemble the exhaust to do this anyhow.

Thanks for the info guys. How far do you have to tear down to see the color dot on the cam tensioner in case it's already been done?

with an inspection mirror and flashlight you shouldn't have to remove much if anything but i can't say for sure because i already had the right side panel off for other reasons when i checked the tensioner. i have my brothers apart right now for this job the parts just came today. the tensioner is on the right rear of the engine the dot on this one was on the left side of the tensioner and i'm guessing they all are. orange is the bad one blue is the replacement. don't be fooled by blue on the tip of the body the paint dot you're looking for is on the base of it.
