I just bought a stage II S/C apex and I am wondering how the stock clutches will hold up to high boost? I read somewhere, that the turbo RX-1 guys weld their primary with anything over 16lbs boost. Are there any concerns with the apex clutch?

The clutch will handle the hp no problem. The guys are talking about welding more mass to the primary weights to make em heavy enuff to run proper rpm,s.

like turk said no problems with stock clutch, just have to weld on stock yamaha wieghts to get enough mass for the extra power. some of the guys are using after market wieghts that don,t need to be welded, depends on what profile you want to run.

I just talked to the S/C manufacturer and he said to go with an aftermarket primary, as it WILL eventually come apart at 300hp. What do you guys think?

I think someone is trying to sell you more parts. I believe Climbmax is still running factory Yamaha clutches.

I ran 18-20lbs never had any problems, as long as you keep the clutch in good condition you should not have any problems.

Randy was still running the stock clutches. He wanted to see how long they would last. Last I heard he had over 10,000km on his machine. The primary clutch on the RX1 is isolated from the crankshaft ( in terms of vibration and harmonics ) courtesy of the gear reduction.

I think the same here, just trying to get more of your money. As said CM is using the yamaha clutches, yamaha springs, weights, rollers, not sure about the helix, but no mods to put it in. Seems about the only thing people where using is aftermarket weights to hold the rpms down. Put the money saved in the tank.

Its not that he's trying to get more money, cuz I'm not even buying anything from him. I just think he'd rather be safe than sorry.

I've had no issues with mine at all. :yam:
