I have a 2011 XTX and didn't like the factory skis (no surprise there) so I went to my trusty Simmons like all my previous apexes. Now I love my Simmons but trying to get more bite in the corners so thinking of trying original skis this winter.

I have read that some love the snow tracker semi aggresive but they are too pricey for me. Has anybody with actual experience made the original skis work well w/ some modification other than trackers like duelie carbides, shimming, etc?

Bottom line - Anybody know how to stop the darting/ searching and rail around corners w/o trackers????

Thanks in advance.

I have 8" slim jim duallies but by the time you buy two pair of those the snowtrackers for 2-3 years doesn't look so bad. I was told use the old 2010 or older skies with the extreme snowtrackers for the best results. That is what I am going to for this year.

If you use the skies on it then just use the semi aggressive snowtrackers. The extreme are too long and may cause issues.

I have spen't a lot of money to accomplish what you are trying to accomplish. Snow Tracker's are the only thing that will bite and completely eliminate all of the hunting, tracking, and darting. When you consider how well they wear they are not that expensive. A couple of my friend's have gone to them after riding my sled and love them, one has the aggressive's on his 2011 XTX. Sorry but they are cheaper than ski's and solve more problem's than any ski or wear bar currently available.

My aggressive snow trackers wore horribly. One year in pretty good conditions was all I got from the long extended insert. This year, I fab'd my Shaper Bars to fit inside the "U" shaped bracket of the snow tracker and threw the wear rod away.

I had over 5K on my extreme's on two Apex's, still had carbide front to rear when I sold the sled. This was in all kind's of condition's in mostly central and northern Wisconsin. I guess you can never please every one but the Tracker's come very close!

Thanks for the replies guys, probably going to stay w/ the Simmons, they perform well. Just hate to see the new improved Yammi stock skis leaning against the garage wall.

Put a set ca razors and shim you are set
Why do we need to shim ca razors?? I have a 2006 apex gt,and a new set of razors, have not yet installed them, but what benefit does shimming theses skis have?

Every ski that I have ever ridden that has been shimed enough to reduce darting has increased steering effort and made it feel like the sled gained 100#. Ski's are designed to have a balance front to rear. If they dart it is because of the design of the ski where they meet the snow, this is what the Tracker's solve with the rectifier and it is the only thing out there that will give you the best of all world's, straight line tracking and bight like nothing else out there with the aggressive's. The only reason for different ski's is to go wider for float if you need it. The only reason I support these thing's is because it is the best money I have ever spent for an add on in my 36 yrs of sled's. Bolt them on, align every thing up with 0 toe for best result's and you will feel confident enough to meet sled's on a rail bed at 100 (don't do it though) with one hand on the bar's. I put the semi aggressive's on my wifes Phazer and now she don't stop when meeting other sled's on the rail bed.

....coming from the one who can't be pleased........
Be real careful with SnowTrackers. They have absloutely no give when railing around corners; to the point of throwing the sled over away from the turn. I've deemed it the "whip/torque" syndrome. That aggressive carbide wearbar that sticks way down into the snow is so deep, that it causes the front end to bite to good. During a certain combination of speed, relaxed leaning, and upper center of gravity, the sled will try to throw you.

This isn't something I dreamt up, but rather from thousands of miles of riding with Snowtrackers. I like the front keel of the trackers; just not the deep runner. That's why I went with the Shapers and Tracker combination.

If you are not a real aggressive rider the semi aggressive's would be plenty for you. Real aggressive rider's usually can't get enough bite. I have semi's on both Phazer's 's and they have plenty bite in most cases. When you are driving down the road at 60 in your car you don't whip the wheel to full lock. On a sled the ski will usually un hook at some point but the Tracker's are closer to 100% hook so if you get over aggressive you can roll the sled out from under you. I used to pull up aside of a bud and whip the bar's and spray them, not any more, you whip the bar's and it turns! To much bite? Just don't over ride your sleds new cornering ability and it won't surprise you. They track straight and they TURN! I like turning when and where I want.
