OK i have a 2003 yamaha YZ450F

Symptioms.

When the bike is iddling you can hear the gear box like a ticking gear when the bike is on its left side on the kickstand. When im driving it and when i go to 4th gear and give it some gas it pops in and out. Click click and the bike you can feel popping in and out of gear.

Now I have taken the motor apart and the gears are in good shape. there is some scuff marks on the Left Shift for gear. Im wondering if the LEFT shift fork is bent and its tapping the the other gear when its idling and when im cruising its not holding the gear in place???

Anyone ?

shift shaft

check for a possible bent shift shaft(the shaft your forks ride on)or a fork.also the drum that your forks ride in could be messed up.look at things very closely,it doesnt take much.to check for straightness of you shafts, roll them on a piece of glass and try to run a feeler gauge under it.

By the ticking it sounds likely that you might have a bent shift fork, look at the pads at the tips of the fork for uneven wear. Also if it has been popping in and out you should look very very closely at the engagement tabs on the gear. When they pop in and out it can round the leading edge of the tabs just slightly which will cause it to continually pop out of gear. The edges should be nice and square and even a little bit of rounding can cause this. Also check out all the bushings for excessive wear ;)!

Im thinking the guy before this beat the bike and the engagment tabs rounded off a bit and thous putting force on the shift fork.

Im thinking of ordering these parts from this fish
