Hey guys, I got a question for you.

I own an '07 APEX RTX. I have just bought a 136" tunnel and rail extension for my sled and was wondering if I would have to change the clutching because of the longer track? Its a 1.75"

Hence me wondering if the Apex and Attak have the same clutch set ups. I always hear about gearing, but little about clutching when you extend your sled.

Thank you guys!!

The Attak have the white spring in secondary that hold the shift a bit more.

Attak stock gear is 23/38
07 Apex rtx gear is 22/38

Attak owner change they gearing for 22/38 for more acceleration so you should be fine

Clutching should be fine, but if you want more performance or more back shifting you may consider a aftermarket clutch kit.

Ok, yea that was what I was hoping I wouldnt have to do was buy a clutch kit. Do you think it will feel a lot slower with this new set up?

Thanks for the help rockrtx!!

1.75 lug will kill your top end for sure and you will have vibration on hard pack trail.

What in your main purpose of your mod, deep snow, mountain?

I ride in Tug Hill, NY so Im not worried about top end. It's more of corner to corner riding.

But anyway, the reason Im putting a 1.75" is because I ride with two guys that have 800HO Rev's (440 Race sled chassis) with 1.75" tracks and they whipped my #*$&@ off the start last year. I couldnt get hardly any traction with that ripsaw and I thought this year I would buy a 136" by 1.75" track. My buddies love the way that 1.75" hooks up in the soft stuff (off the trail) and and in the powder its amazing. Where I had a hard time going partly off the trail last year and my apex only wanted to spin. It was a slug, lol. I didn't really even care for the 121 Ripsaw, I felt that the apex was way to torquey and powerful for that size and kind of track.

I guess I didnt even think about the vibration on hard pack...but whenever I tried my buddies sleds out I didnt feel much. I guess I will find out, haha.

Im just really worried about low and mid...top end like I said really isnt needed to much. I dont really go past 80-90mph MAX on those trails in Tug Hill. Around here there arnt many lakes, so really no opportunities to test her top speed out : )

OK,Rev's have much lighter than our Apex so that give advantage in deep snow + they got tall lug track..mmmm

Those mod will help you for sure in deep snow, just remember to keep your shift rpm between 10500 and 10700 for maximum power.you may have to adjust your clutch. If your RPM is on the low side you can try the white spring at 3-3 twist.

I rode with a 800 rev HO all winter,on hard pack i was 10 MHP faster.

Yea I know my Apex is heavy...but Im trying to show them a 4stroke can do whatever a 2stroke can, or maybe even better! hahaha All they do is bash that apex, i tell ya ; )

Dumb questions, how do I tell if my shift rpm is at 10,500-10,700?

From what I here my Apex should have no problem with the 800 HO's...especially the older ones. Im hoping with more traction (136") I should have them off the start this year. I was really disappointed when I raced them last year and that 800HO took me off the start!

Is there anyway for me to adjust the stock clutch a little, so I have more low end/range?

Sorry for all the questions! I appreciate the help Rockrtx!!

You gotta get your rpm,s stable at holeshot. You want(imo) 10k engagement slowly climbing to 10,700ish on top end. Don,t do this on a tight twisty groomed trail(won,t do that again!!(sorry guys)) Even with the white secondary spring & stock clutching the 136,s will drop rpm,s(suck the belt down) at engagement & you have lost the race. You need aftermarket clutching or a different helix to fix this issue. The stock primary weight/helix/spring combo shift out too fast. There is a lot of good info out there. Buy from a vendor that supports his product & will help you with after sales service.

Very interesting. I have such a hard time desiding on what to do, b/c most of the topics I read one half of the people say stock is good and you cant beat it...then I got the other half saying go aftermarker...Proline or Ulmer, lol.

I cant wait for it to snow, so I can let you guys that are still wondering, know what the real deal is.

It is interesting to here what you guys have to say though. And I thank you for the help!

Like I was saying earlier, I just want my sled to perform just as good, well better than before. I want it to be torquey and snappy, but this time I'm hoping to achieve good traction and take off!!

Yamaha-man

this is too easy. If your sled is pulling 10ish k holeshot & climbing to 10,700ish on top you won,t gain much by clutching( it probably is not) Just watch your tach & check your clutch temps(2 best indicators) ((do not do this at at the same time!!!)) keep us posted.

Gotta add that the RTX has a pink secondary spring vs the Attak's white secondary.

Have not been playing with the '08 RTX clutching yet, may look into it this season. HAHAHA the turbo sled got all the attention :) LOL
