made my own eletric plug to fit into 12v acc. plug. cut shield helmet wire an soder it in 12 volt plug from radio shack. plugged it into car lighter got 14 volt so i know it works. but when plug into sled it blows the dc acc. fuse. any suggestions why could use the help?

I would double check my homemade plug first. The wire you cut and re-soldered could be shorted. Check the size of the fuse being blown may need to use bigger fuse. If you don't find anything unusual try plugging your helmet into your car lighter plug and see if it blows that fuse.
Do you have a meter?

tried

i tried it in car cig. lighter an i got 14.6 volts with volt meter so i know the plug isnt shorting . must be amp draw is more than the fuse is. but i dont want to put bigger fuse not sure what i could do to sled .

Plug your sheild into the car if it works then at least you know the sheild is not shorting. If sheild works in car no problem you are going to have to try one fuse up. Most car cig lighters are 15 amp if the sled is only a five go to a 10 and try it.

OK i'm no mechanic or electrical expert but is it a good idea to put in a fuse that allows more current through a circuit than it was designed for? Seems to me thats asking for trouble. Fuses are usually put there to protect something would'nt this jeapordize that? Again I'm no expert just trying to use common sense correct me if i'm wrong.

Steve thinking the same thing, plus that circuit the wire is small and it is switched or goes thru a relay. Try a 5 amp first.

Yes he would or could be taxing the wire that was originally set for the fuse that keeps blowing. I have both or our shields hooked up to the blue wire with white stripe under the foam pad of the steering handles. This is not a very big wire and our shields work fine. The wire going to an accessory outlet I would think would be at least that big or bigger but I dont know for sure. If he had a 3 amp fuse like I said try the next one bigger until it works for him, but we all know when you change and add things it comes with a risk. He should also like I said earlier make sure the sheild is working properly first before going any further. Make no mistake though you do this at your risk. If you have doubts take it to a car stereo installer or electrician.

not to be a smart #*$&@ but make sure positive is positive where it should be and the same with the negative.if you have a logic probe or power probe it would be way better than a test light.

The wires to the shield are very small, so I don't see how there can be a lot of current flowing through it. Someone with an ampmeter can check it.

? Simple solution:I have always wired my sheilds directly to the battery. In the apex chasis that may be difficult but then you would eliminate worries about other circuts.

Good luck
