Has anyone tried burping the thottle quickly on the FI engine. I notice that if you just pop the throttle and quickly let off the engine bogs and sometimes stalls. This is only when you very very quickly pop the throttle and let right off. Does it when the engine is hot or cold. Also I have not noticed the low coolant light coming on and flashing until the engine has warmed up like on the RX-1. The owner's manual says it is suppose to flash. Maybe it has just been too warm outside for it to come on??

I would suggest that as people get their Apexes that they make sure they let them warm up completely before blipping the throttle. If you turn it on let your buddies listen to it and rev it up over and over it will always be on the enriching circuit and you might foul the spark plugs. It happened to me on my RX-1 in 03 from showing it off.

Turn the key don't touch the throttle and let it warm up before you blip!

Although it's hard to resist firing them up in the garage ........you should avoid it at all costs , The rings need to be seated before you idle them too much . You'll glaze the ring to cylinder seal and have an oil burner.

ALL new engines to that popping thing, and backfiring, etc. It will be fine once its fully broken in.

Turbo Tim is right try to resist the urge the engine needs to be broken in under load especially in the early stages. I know it's hard and all your buddies want to listen to it but keep it to an absolute minimum till you get a chance to actually ride it

I have to agree with DELTABOX. Any engine, before blipping the throttle, should always have it warmed up a little to operating temperature.

My Attak has been fired up manty times, but I do the $1.98 sprinkler method with the garden hose pointed at the front heat enchanger and exhaust.

Was at the Snodeo in NH this year and got to ride one of the new sleds but more importantly i got to have a 45 min. conversation with one of the yamaha tech reps that was there. One of the questions that i asked him about was the break in procedure for the new motors. He said to follow the owners manual for break in while riding, stay within your RPMs listed in the manual, vary the throttle position and no WOT for extended periods of time.

My second question to him about break in had to do with running the motor in the gargage before the season started and if it would help or hurt the process. He said running the motor like this will help the break in but follow this procedure: start the motor, let it warm up and run for a few minutes BUT don't let it over heat, shut it off and let it cool down completely. You can do this a few times a week, the heat up cool down process helps to seat the rings and exercises the internal parts.

His answers made me feel better because i did this with my 04 warrior and never burnt a drop of oil, no matter how i rode the sled. I am going to follow the same routine with my attack.

Paul, I could not agree with Yamaha more.

It is the same with a new set of gears for the rearend of any car/truck.
My friend put in a new set of gears, and went out for a 2 hour drive in the country. The rearend was so hot, you couldn't even put your hand close to it. Result was the heat fatigued the gears, and lead to the teeth breaking off, and destroying other components. The instructions said to run for so many minuyes, then cool down, and repeat several times. He did not do that.


Run till warmed up, then allow to cool completely. And you can do this several times before the snow flies. Big name companies spend big dollars on development, and want consumers to read the owner's manual. Not to mention oil stability, reliability, and other processes to make a quality product.
