Blew a belt which in turn wrapped the cord around and behind the primary and destroyed the countershaft seal. How do you remove the countershaft assembly easily? Have it all apart but cannot remove (due to the chain for the oil pump?) Is it possible to access this chain to hold it for countershaft removal?? Please help.

Thats #$%&* deal, when I had that cover off for my turbo drain line. I gave a pull on the shaft, found out it comes out with the motor taken all apart. Maybe somebody else will have better news for you.

If there's a way, I haven't found it.

You're going to have to pull the engine, flip it over and pull the oil pan. Remove the water pump (note the orientation of the collar on pump gear) and the gear reduction assembly will come out. Repair the seal and re-install the GR with the chain on sprocket. Put the gear from the water pump shaft onto the chain and then slide the water pump back in.

Thanks guys, this is the information that I needed but didn't want to hear. I guess I'll get at it now, just hoping there was a quick and easy way to do it as it sure looks like it should be easier. Thanks again.

We just changed out one of those seals, just pull the 6 bolts, and leave the shaft in place and pull the cover only.

Ted.

Ted, Do you have the seal or where is it available from? bearing shops? I've already been down for a couple weeks, and cannot find the seal itself including the dealers. It appears yamahas answer is a complete coutershaft assembly for the apex.

Yes bearing shops, if you can't find one in your local bearing shops you can pull the bearing right on the sled with a puller and install a new bearing.

Which might not be a bad Idea since the belt material went inside the bearing.

If anyone can come up with a part#/mfr please post it - this would be helpful for a lot of people.
