I have an 06 Apex GT that I bought crashed, and I'm fixing it up. There's a crash related electrical issue - I'm getting the code er_1 on the gauge pod, which prevents the sled from starting. There is also a constant clicking coming from the fuel pump relay in the left footwell. Here's what I've done so far:
- Looked it up in the service manual and searched this site - it means no ECU communication. It can be caused by a bad speedometer sensor, but I have eliminated that possibility by trying the speedo sensor on another sled.
- I've discovered that the code only comes on when I have the fuel pump and oil pressure sensor plugged in. If both of these are unplugged, there is no error code.
- There is full battery voltage in the fuel pump harness right when you turn the key on, then it shuts off after a few seconds (as it should - seems to be normal.) However, if the fuel pump is actually plugged in or the oil pressure sensor is plugged in, the relay will just click constantly.
- I get a reading of 10 volts when I ground the oil pressure sensor wire.
- I'm going to see if I can swap the ECU next, but I don't think it's the ECU because everything works when the fuel pump and oil pressure sensor are unplugged. (unless there's some weird malfunction going on?)
- I can access diagnostic mode with the gauge pod, but as soon as I get to D30 it freezes up and says er_1. If I go through the codes backwards, it freezes at D51. So it won't let me access D30-D51.
I'm pretty stumped right now...any ideas?

try posting this in the Apex/Attack General Discussion Area. You will most like likely recieve more hits from guys that can help or possibly in the Need A Fix. Post it both.

Make sure the speedo sensor is plugged into the right plug. If I recall there are two connectors that are the same and if you confuse them you'll get the ER-1 code.
Well...I figured it out.
I knew the battery was pretty much gone in this sled, so I'd been hooking up a charger to the battery to power everything up. Today, after messing with it for awhile, just for the heck of it I bumped the charger up to boost. Then I discovered it worked with the oil pressure sensor plugged in, but still not with the fuel pump. So then I ditched the battery charger, got some jumper cables and hooked up another bigger battery....and what do you know...my problem is gone. It started right up and was all ready to go. I guess the charger alone was not enough to keep the relay open along with everything else taking power which caused the clicking. I've never run into that problem before, I've operated on charger power through dead batteries on vehicles more than once. Now after swapping ECUs and sensors, chasing my tail for the past 2 days, I feel a bit like an idiot
But I guess I can't complain, all I need to buy is a new battery rather than an ECU + whatever else

Number 1 thing when trouble shooting is to make sure the battery is fully charged. When you add a charger, the power is not a clean DC source. A charger is a AC to DC converter. There are still "remnants" of the AC coming off the charger. Depending on how badly the battery is discharged, these "remnants" of the AC can drive your electronics whacky.
Glad you found it, cause you did not initially indicate that you were on a charger to compensate for a dead battery.
