Real-Reaper, you should at least take the time to adjust your suspension! Many different adjustments are available in the spring load! You just need to calibrate the preload to your weight and style. Get the stiffer spring if it still bottoms out on the stiffest settings and you'll be fine. You won't know till you adjust what you have. just my 2c

Word has it that Ohlins goofed and put too soft of a spring in the ECOhlins on the GT. I hear there will be a recall once enough springs are provided by Ohlins.

The GT has a spring designed for a comfortable ride and is great at eating up stutter bumps. The stiffer Ohlins spring works great and they are now available. The Blair Morgan Rev has a stiff calibration the GT is closer to a GSX. Get the spring they are designed to work with the stock valving and on the GT you can compensate by adjusting the compression and rebound. You mentioned that when you were on full hard the back end kicked. You need to adjust the rebound on the shock, it is a manual adjustment on the rear of the shock turn it in 5 clicks and see hos it feels.

Hey Tim, it's J here. I see you came back from the dark side. LOL. You'll have to run out my way when the Assinaboine freezes up. Should be soon. I'd like to get your feedback on the GT once you get it setup. Just sold my 03 RX1. Sounds like the Apex has some more pull. J 8)

I rode about 100 miles today with a year or 2 old REV 800 and a 06 rengade. I am on a GT. After trading off and riding all of them, i would have to say the REV, which the owner has done alot of work to make it run in the bumps even better) was a bit better in the slower trails with bigger bumps. When we got out into the open with longer whoops type bumps, i thought the apex was superior. The renegade was OK in all conditions, but didn't do either as well as the GT or the short track REV.

Now hold on boys, the Rev still resides beside my GT and I do not see it going anywere soon. The GT is gonna need some tweaking for sure. Assiniboine needs a bit more freezing by the look of it today but should be out once it is open for business. Ran the ditch on #1 to Elie just to get some miles on, in the rough I could not catch my kid on the REV 800

I doubt that Ohlins goofed up.
What I heard was the GT with Ohlins was set up to have similar ride calibration (spring rate + dampening) as the Apex ER with the KYB shock.
While the GT spring rate is close to the std Apex, the big advantage in the GT was that the Ohlins EC adjusts the compression dampening electronically and also has a rebound adjustment clicker on the shaft. Being able to change both comp & rebound gives you a broader adjustment without having to change the internal parts.
If you are a big guy and want to ride hard in 2-ft bumps, you should check into getting the optional stiffer spring.

Real-Reaper,
You have to take the time to set the suspension for your weight and riding style. If you look in the manual there is a sequence to adjusting the rear suspension. First check the sag, then the rebound, then compression. Also the weight transfer adjustment will have an effect on ride quality, Less transfer better ride. There is alot of good info in this post http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php?t=20318 Also go to the dealer and ask them to make a copy of the manual that tells how to set the suspension. Unfortunitely the GT has a wide range of adjustability which may not be good for the average rider that doesn't fully understand compression dampening, rebound dampening etc.... Motorcycles have had both for a long time, I think this is relatively new to snowmobiles. There is a good write up in the manual. If you PM me with an e-mail address I can scan the pages at work on Monday and e-mail them in PDF format to you. I don't have the page with the sag settings chart because it wouldn't copy. You could call the dealer to get the sag for your weight, but if you go for a sag of 40-45 MM you will be set.

I was talking to a Yammy dealer in Quebec and he told me that ALL of his GT owners are complaining about a too soft rear end. He said that the ER guys are very happy with theirs though.

Thx rhoag, I have a fair bit of experience with Yamaha and I know that you can adjust things to tweak the ride but heavy bottoming is difficult to tune out with out drastic measures that will negatively effect ride quality, time will tell we will see. Hey Dano, yes my old tag Reaper seems to be have been stolen from me in my absense, not sure how that happened.
