Anyone take their 121 Apex to the Mountains out West and not get stuck every other corner? I just was offered a trip out West and I want to go but if i am going to be stuck all the time maybe it isn't worth the trip? Let me know how everyone else performs out west with the short track. Also, I did just install a new Ice Ripper XT track it that means anything to anyone.
I have gone 3 times on both rx-1 121 and 06 Apex RTX and had a blast. You can ride trails and play a bit and you ride last in the pack your fine as a matter of fact I was not stuck near as much as the guys on mountains in front of me. I did not climb things like lions head or anything close to verticle. Keep in mind it blows and can drift here are 2 ideas of what can happen Good vs bad. The 2nd one is on a groomed trail, it snowed 3 ft in 6 hrs and blew 40 mph for the entire time. Thought my sled was going to spend the night.
I will warn you they are serious about speed limits depending where you go. West Yellowstone on trail is 35 MPH and its $200 payable on the trail for doing 50 or more.

I thought Yellowstone was closed to snowmobiles now? Unless you rented from authorized vendors. I am excited to go out there I just don't need to be digging the entire time. I know a couple of the guys I am going with will have shovels and stuff so that is a minor luxury that will help if someone does get buried.
West Yellowstone is a town & is not inside the park. We ride from the City of West Yellowstone - Southwest west over the mountains to Island Park, Idaho. We Ride along US 20 right out of Yellowstone.

I did take the apex to pittspurg nh last year when it was at its deepest. rode with couple mt sleds. If riding in back and avoiding trouble, it was great, wouldn't miss it for anything

yamaadog how was it getting the sled out in that one pic, what size of track on it? i think thats my worst nightmare.
Thats a stock 121" 1-1/4" ripsaw I made it across about 50' of the drift track doing 100mph me doing about 60 mph but then I hit the curl on the drift. We were in about 16' of snow with 3' or more of fresh.
That took 5 guys about an hour to get out (of which - 3 I just met there on the trail) or we would have had to get towed. I was 50' from the other side of the drift. We ran their mountains through it about 10 times to knock it down and then pushed, pulled and grunted.
It was worth it, we have been lucky everytime we went out great conditions. I missed 2 trips out this yr 1st there is no snow 2nd it was forecast to be 50 F. 4 buddies went and both times came home 4 days early because of conditions. I even bought 2 mountain sleds this yr and am not going to make it out.
Looks like boondocking the UP.

It's really gonna depend on where you're riding and who you're riding with. I took my Attak 3 years ago, with a bunch of other guys with shorties and we rode mostly trail and played a bit, but the snow sucked and we could go pretty much anywhere. The next year I went with guys that have a ton of mountain riding experience and there was a TON of fresh snow. I left my sled on the trailer and rented. If you're gonna trail ride, you will be fine. The trails around West and IP are wide fast and smooth (because no one rides on them) It will be THE best trail riding you have ever experienced. If you are gonna boondock...don't bother bringing your GT...it wasn't built for it, plain and simple.
