looking to buy some aftermarket idler wheels, the oem don't seem to hold up and are very pricey. Any ideas?

I have the "spoked" oem accesory yammy wheels on both apex's... they have held up very well... nothing like the originals

I have the newer yamaha spoked ones also and they are holding up great (5000miles) . All the originals have been replaced. Very happy.
the oem spoked wheels are durable and have replacable bearings.

I also utilize Polaris idlers which are a few millimeters larger diameter. I have a couple of them on my '11 Apex. Think I got 'em from Dennis Kirk.
If the Yamaha wheels are not working out for you try this from RockerDan http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php? ... 05&start=0

Im also interested in changing my wheels on my 07 RTX. When changing them, are you guys also changing the inner ones as well? I need to help my hi-fax wear and I love this site.

The slide burn up terrible on the 07 RTX. I added a small wheel kit that helped this problem a great deal. I also have Wahl bros drivers and added a fully clipped rip-saw which helps. If your track doesn't need to be replaced then the drivers and new track make no sense.
Look into the wheel kit and that will help!

Am I also changing out the rear wheels? Or will they work with the excell wheels, lets say?
