I'm in the process of extending my 07'Attak out to 151" with a 2.25" lug and was wondering what gearing you guys have stock and what kind of speed you see out of it. I don't really care much about top speed but I don't want it to top out at 75-80mph though. The stock Attak gearing is 23-40 and I'm keeping reverse so I think I'm stuck with the 40 tooth bottom gear so Iwas thinking either 21or 20 tooth top gear. I have gone to 8 tooth extroverts also so that gears it down some. Mostly riding will be up hills and through trees and deep( for Michigan anyway ) powder riding with riding in heavy spring snow also.

gearing
I have never lenghtened an Apex, but myself and my buddy have lengthened RX-1's to 151x1.25 tracks for flatland trail/powder riding. The best gearing I found was 23/40. In my opinion, since you're running more lug and doing some mountainn climbing, I'd go 22/40. Should have plenty of power to turn those gears. I also was changing rear clutch spring to a white, which your Attack should already have from the factory. Just my opinion. Hope this helps.!!

I would try the 20 tooth. I run 19/40 on mine with 7 tooth driver.. 162x16 non-turbo MTX.

Thanks guys I was kind of leaning towards the 20/40 setup but was not certain. That's why I wondered what stock gearing was for an Apex MTX and figured that would be a good place to start.

I'm thinking 22/40 or most likely 20/40 when I stretch mine to 151" Will be with 8 tooth extro drivers.

Mike I say you should just pull the trigger man. Your wife should be able to handle it just fine. If you follow the thinking that Yamaha advertised about the XTX Nytro a stretched Attak to 151" with 6* tip ups should still handle like a 136", bridge bumps like a 144" and float off trail like a 151". At least that's what I'm hoping for HaHa.mntvipermn said:I'm thinking 22/40 or most likely 20/40 when I stretch mine to 151" Will be with 8 tooth extro drivers.

I have taken my old apex mtn in the up,With your 8t drivers I would go 21/40 if you ride mostly off trail but if you ride on a lot of rail road beds go to 22/40

Last 3 seasons have been mostly off trail and I intend to do even more off trail that's why the extension to 151" . Looks like 21/40 is the lowest I can go without swapping out the chain also. If you don't mind me asking what kind of top speed can you hit?pro116 said:I have taken my old apex mtn in the up,With your 8t drivers I would go 21/40 if you ride mostly off trail but if you ride on a lot of rail road beds go to 22/40

Mine came stock 20/40, if you are running a 151" i'd go higher like a 21 or 22.

I would say so if I go to the 20/40 set up then I have to get the 68 link chain also. I may just try the 23/40 set up I have right now and then may go to a 23/42 setup. I think I should be able to utilize the 70 link chain then and also avoid the sharper bend of the smaller top gear.
