ZAKSTANG I'll let you know. I just got the extension project done tonight and took it out for a test spin. It doesn't ratchet at all under power but when you let off you can hear what sounds like the extroverts hitting the clips. Not sure if this is normal or not. I was supposed to get a fully clipped track but it's clipped every other window and we didn't notice it until the other night when we had already cut down the 2.25" finger lugs to 2". I don't think being clipped every other window will hurt anything though. I had the rear of the sled lifted with my electric hoist in the garage and had my son work the throttle and I watched the drivers and they're timed perfectly. They are Wahl 8 tooth 2.52 pitch drivers. I am getting some lugs that are hitting occasionally on the diecast metal framing under the muffler so I may end up trimming those rows of fingers down some and see if that's the noise we're hearing. But like i said it is smooth and quite under power.
Ok, just keep me posted....its gonna be a week or two before i get it swapped out...

tryanATTAK said:I would say so if I go to the 20/40 set up then I have to get the 68 link chain also. I may just try the 23/40 set up I have right now and then may go to a 23/42 setup. I think I should be able to utilize the 70 link chain then and also avoid the sharper bend of the smaller top gear.
You think 23/42 set up would be advantageous to 21/40 or 22/40 for more low end pull (lower gearing)? You could use stock 70 link chain with any of these, right??
You're getting me antsy to do this myself, tryanAttak!
Thx!

Well I just checked and the 23/42 setup would require a 72 link chain. The 21/40 or 22/40 still uses the 70 link chain we have stock. In the process of having mine all torn down i did change the clip position on the Mono shock to the 3rd clip spot and it really stiffened up the rear end. i have since lowered the cam setting to the 3rd cam and it seems about the right amount of sag. I'll just have to see how it does out riding.

Next season I think I will powder coat the whole suspension black may even set it back. Does your wife have access to your guns? I sure wouldn't want to make the evening news if she's that dead set against you changing it over LOL. The hookup is incredible with this track but it will still spin in the few inches of snow we have right now. Can't wait to get it out in some deep stuff and see how it does.

Just extend that thing already

I love the 153" setup on mine..have 120 miles on it so far since we got dumped on with snow the past few days (20+ inches here in SW MN)
As far as gearing, I have not done anything yet to my stock Apex GT gearing (24/38) which is pretty steep for my application. I have 7 tooth 3" pitch drivers which gears it down some, basically the same as 8 tooth 2.52" pitch drivers. It has decent snap to it on the bottom end but the thing is, I've never ridden an Apex before this, so I have nothing to compare to. I found a deal on a 22T top gear and a 68L chain so I was going to run 22/38, but after reading through some of this I might go lower yet. I don't care at all about top end.

I would for sure go with the 22 40 it will pull it fine.
the 20 40 is a mountain set up for 162 tracks at elevation.

Well the gearing seems to be alright. I rode it over 500 miles this past week most of it off trail in some 2-4' deep snow but did some drift busting that was closer to 4-5' deep. I also raced my son out on the trail it was skis up til 100mph and that was just when I let off. It seemed to have plenty of pull off the bottom for all situations I encountered. I could snap the throttle and countersteer and make an almost 90* carving turn from a dead stop. I just love this sled. I let my wife and my son ride it also and they said "this thing is hard to keep under 90". It also returned pretty decent fuel mileage. I personally think I wouldn't go any shorter than maybe a 22/40 as it had plenty of snort right off the bottom and still had over 100 mph capability.
What did you end up doing for gearing? Sounds like you have quite a bit more bottom end grunt than I do with 24/38. Right now I'm probably going to go 21/38 which is basically the same as 22/40.

I have the stock 23/40 gearing that comes in the Attak. I also did some fairly long hill climbs and it seemed to have plenty of motor for them. I was a little concerned about this as last spring I climbed a big hill that made me feel as if I needed some shorter gearing then but I think it was just my track had trenched in so far I was scrubbing alot of speed off with the running boards and it was heavy and wet snow. Time will tell but for the powder we rode in this past week it was perfect. If you go to 21/38 you'll have to get a 68 link chain. Check out the gearing chart at ulmerracing.com.

Niko I have to wait til next season for that as my wife would kill me if I spend anymore on it this season. i like the new Skinz seat so I might try to get her approval next season for that.niko said:you need to get ride of that heavy stock seat, its like riding with your fat friend on the back![]()
