Was thinking the other day.

I havent done my own oil change yet, but will tear into them tonight on both Apex.

How much oil is in the crank case compared to the oil tank?

During the season if someone wanted to freshen up the oil, is there enough in the oil tank to make a difference or hardly any held in there in comparison to the crank case?

Just thinking of some time saving, however by the time you tear into the filter change, whats another few minutes for tearing the skid plate and acess panel off.

Just thinking out loud I guess.

Kev, if you drain both and replace the filter to start, they'll probably stay clear the duration of the season. Mine has anyway. Using good oil, not many would need to consider freshening? Checking, yes.

the crankcase holds about half to one liter, so when i change oil i add that to the engine and the rest to the tank.the tank holds about 2 liters. total oil change tank, filter, engine is 3.5 liters.

OK dumb question....

When I fill (mind Im sitting at work, not in front of my manual) do I just add to the tank? Or is there some place Im missing?

Add to tank and A 1/2 to 3/4 quart to the engine. There is a plug on top of the engine on the left side

Yes,if you drain motor base and change filter add 2L to the tank, then start her up and let it run for a minute or so then add another 1.5L in the tank...start it up again and let her warm-up good and hot, 5 to 10min max shut it down and let it sit for 5 min or so and check your oil level without screwing in dipstick.

You should also check the screen in your oil tank, you have to remove the 2 screws holding the brass coloured elbow on the bottom of the oil tank and the hose going to base of motor and clean the screen with brake cleaner, watch for the "O" ring, make sure its in the right place before re-assembling.
