First check the plug for the main ignition switch(key), which is just under where it's mounted in the dash. Inspect for dirty connection.
Make sure the battery is healthy with clean TIGHT connections.

Starter relay under the airbox. Seen this before were the white connector and the fuse terminals get corroded and cause intermittent issues

Had the same issue on my 08 40th anniversary model, it was either fine or completely dead. Dealer could not figure it out so they changed the whole wiring harness ($1000) it fixed the problem but, upon inspecting the harness I found one of the ground junctions (there were 3 or 4 grounds together in a plastic connector) was all burnt up. I believe mine was on the left side of the frame near the top of the clutch, not 100% sure it was a long time ago. Anyway gives you another thing to check, hope this helps! I know there are other posts on here about this problem cause this is where I found this fix, even though the dealer got me for $1000.

pete1776, since you have an 08 Apex LTX like mime, check out my post from a different thread where I provide pics of the ground blocks I found on mime.
I found a total of 6 square grounding blocks and two flat grounding blocks. Of those square blocks, two are the ones found above the primary clutch but there are three more further down the wire harness that goes into the nose and near the ECU. There was also one on the passenger side near the fuse box. On my Apex, there was also a flat ground block with the two blocks above the primary and another one with the three further down in the nose.
