I understand the efficiency of the skid but there is alot more weight to turn with a 144 vs. a 128. Its possible but I'll have to see them both under the gun on the lake this year and then I'll believe the xtx has a faster top end.. And if it does, maybe I'll try a long track, never appealed to me before....

I don't think there is a lot of extra weight, maybe 15 pounds difference in the suspension and a pound in the longer track.
I was taken aback by Yamaha's decision to release the 2 lengths, especially when they advertise the XTX's ability to turn like a 121 on trails...so why even have the 128" skid at all?
I guess you have to look at it this way...if you like to ride hard, then get the XTX. If you want comfort, get the 128.
Personally, I'd get the XTX.

Its about 10lbs in suspension and about 20lbs in track. Its not the suspension weight so much as the track. The sled not only has to carry the extra weight but its has to turn it and that is what takes power, we'll see this winter, we'll have them both under the radar gun.

Have you ridden the 2011 sleds? or a anthything with EPS?
Weight is not an issue with it. I am worried about not studding the track on the xtx and if the same clearance issue is on the other two models.

The suspension is 5 pounds heavier & the track is about 5 pounds more for a grand total of about 10 pounds more weight.

If you are an aggressive trail rider who does alot of tight twisty trails then go with the 128". If you are more of a "trail cruiser" who does not get into the tight twisty corners or plays off trail then go with the 144".
15x128 Ripsaw is 41 lbs.
15x144 Ripsaw is 45 lbs.
Overall there is 18 lbs difference between the SE model and the XTX model, I did not check what the weight on the standard Apex model was.

Here are the weights of the 2011 Apex models full of oil and gas. Weights are from the Yamaha manual.
Apex SE 681lbs
Apex 6901lbs
Apex XTX 699lbs
I weighed my Apex(standard) on a HWY scale and it showed 616lbs with one bar on the gas gauge.

Thank you Mr. Ulmer. Thats basically what I was trying to say, my weights were off by about 1/3 but basically what my first post said, If you ride trails, get the SE, if you go off the trails from time to time, get the xtx.
And yes Banks, I have ridden all of the 2011 yammis. Probably alot more than you think. But, without studs, you cannot accurately get acceleration times or top speeds out of them, not to mention I never got any of them in an area that I could top them out. This season, under the gun, we'll find out.. Im not against owning a long track sled, they never appealed to me but if it turns out to actually be faster due to improved efficiency, I'll consider it...
