APEX " Y " PIPES BREAKING & UNAVAILABLE

they have a few issues..some more hassle and expense than others...

I have a question for you metal/welding experts..
is there any way cut off then to weld stainless steel on the end replacing the titanium end?

The ends are not the only place that are cracking on the pipes. Here are a few pix from someone that welded cracks in his pipes near the tunnel mounts.

seems like there should be some vibration dampening at key areas ..

offtopic...how do you like the power commander / ignition module setup?

From what I've seen working on dirt bikes and quads, the ti. headers hold up much better that stainless.

The exhaust needs a joint in the middle of the tunnel,or rite behind the two y pipes. If they would use a joint similar to what they used on a two stroke exhaust with the doughnut and some sort of spring mount it would allow for the flex we're seeing.

It's a sweet setup. I really needed to add a lot of fuel down low to compensate for the increased airflow of the Excell. The sled missed real bad do to a lean condition that is now solved with the use of the PCIII. I have combined several maps for the fuel and timing and it now runs real strong.

I agree!

I think they've been caught with their pants down on this one...not having a clue there would be this problem

I STILL THINK A FLEX JOINT WILL SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. ;)!

mine hit 4300 miles today and guess what, exhaust is leaking. is there a link on the procedure to take it apart?

I put ROCKERDAN's write-up plus other mods on a site for easier viewing ----> http://yamahamods.8k.com/ <----

Only read a few pages of this thread. This issue is what led me to decide to part my RX. I had about 6800 miles and sled starting backfiring. End result was everything was shot in the doughnut area. Also had a cracked w arm and torn out RA cable (again)
And I wanted an Apex...

So...I love the Apex so far...just broke it in and have 550 miles on her.

My question to you guys is this. Can a BETTER doughnut be made instead of a stainless Y pipe?
Would it not make more sense to make a doughnut that lasts?
I literally had almost NOTHING left in doughnut material on the RX when I tore it apart.

I plan on just changing my doughnuts every 2K as maintenance on the Apex but it would be nice to get a better longer lasting doughnut. Has this been brought up? Everyone seems to focus on a better Y pipe. Don't need it if we can get a better doughnut right?
