Yesterday afforded the opportunity for me to get the first 20 miles on what has the potential of being labled "The best sled I have ever owned." Now that the hard break in is completed its oil change time and point it towards the UP for some serious smiles!!!
My idea of "Best" is different than some but identical to many. I wanted from this sled to have the best of all worlds... within reason. I do not need the fasted sled around. I do not need the absolute best suspension available. I do not care if I am the fastest through the woods. I don't care if I can jump it the highest or farthest .... however I did desire a sled that, out of the box, provided the best blend of all these things. I am pretty sure this sled is it for me. OMG !!!
Here comes the disclaimer.... I admit to have made a couple modifications prior to taking the first lap around the yard. Nothing done to the clutch, track or suspension but I ditched the stock skiis right away and opted for powder hounds, Installed the colder NGK plugs...(Forgot the # off the top of my head..10ek??) added an Isovibe to the bar riser with power madd guards and went to a stiffer 13mm sway bar.
I am still giggling today from the all around excellent machine Yamaha has built for me. I am confident after 200 miles / day my 46 year old back and knees will feel great the next day. I had to spend a lot of $$ to make my 05 Mach Z close to this nice. My wife even commented on how nice it was to ride compared to my Mach. (Perhaps next year she will let me pry her REV 800 HO out of her hands for one of these beautiful 4 stroke sleds.)
The time spent in the saddle yesterday was mainly ripping back and forth accross a farm field but also included running through 2' drifts along the west edge of the field that quickly developed into moguls. all I can say is that I think Yamaha has this suspension set up right. I am 200# dripping wet and with the electric ohlins shock set at 1/2 way and the rebound 5 clicks in I found it difficult to imagine it could improve through the type of bumps I hit yesterday. I ran through them at all different speeds and the front and rear suspension ate it up without a hint of bottoming. I am addicted to the throttle response and torque of this monster. I'll reserve comment on cornering until I spend time on the trails, but handling feels awesome so far.
Excellent job Yamaha.

Excellent report! I just got an Attak and, unfortunately, haven't had ridable conditions yet. You've certainly made me more anxious to go.

I have it set at 5 clicks in from factory setting so 25 in total. So far so good.

Re: report
Thanks!... Great sled!!
Only one mod left to install..... Just waiting on delivery of 2 of the new design ORV warning lighting systems for the GT and my wife's REV from some outfit by the name of impact industries. Have you ever seen one of these devices?? I think every sled should be sporting one don't you? Are these guys OK to deal with? Is the product going to fall apart the first time out?
Just kidding with you.... Good to have you snooping around TY !
But seriously, I am looking forward to using your product this season.

attak gt
Thanks Soldier!! We will be on Attak gt's this season and are very excited to let them rip. I believe this weekend I'll get to put a few miles on This site is hard to stay away from. I'm not sure if this site helps cool the riding itch or make it worse. Either way it's ALL GOOOOD!!

how do you like the isovibe system
I took this past Friday off and did 170 miles of groomed trails in the Gaylord, MI area on my new Attak GT. This was a much better ride to evaluate the sled than the 27 miles I did up there in mid October.
Like all of you say, the engine is awesome! I was with an 02 MXZ 800 with full Crankshop setup and 150psi compression. The owner is a lifelong Doo tinkerer and his stuff always runs to the best of its' ability. I beat up on him pretty bad on smooth surface drags; the better we hooked up, the faster I left him behind. In the bumps, forget it.
Rear shock: mid compression setting was about perfect for moderate bumps at moderate speeds. I tried to run it at the softest to see how plush I could get it, but it would bottom in the holes at 45mph. Crank it up to full and I could hit anything at any speed and it just took it, begging for more. We didn't run on any "mine fields", but these were up to two-footers with a big enough spacing to treat them as jumps.
Front shocks: The spring preload matches the book settings, but are way too much. I was running the compression all the way out with no bottoming. I need to back the springs off, also to lower the front end. I had alot of ski lift in the tight corners, even after I pulled most of the weight transfer out of it.
I can see a stiffer sway bar in my future.
Hot grips: The grips get plenty hot, but take longer to get there. The thumb warmer was fine, but will not burn your thumb (like my SXr) even on high.

I like it a lot! This is the second sled I have had one on. I wanted to raise the bars a little more than stock and the isovibe acomplished a 2" rise and cushions in the big hits at the same time. If you did not want taller bars you have the ability to mount them with only 3/4 " rise or so.

I'm jealous!! If it weren't for family obligations this weekend I would have been up there too. Now the big melt down is "ON". The snow is leaving as fast as it came.
Good to hear your findings. I think we have the same impression of this sled. Are you running stock skis? Stock rear spring? Studs? What do you weigh?
From what I can tell so far (50 miles farm field & ditch running) The Attak feels great with the 13mm sway bar.
I'm 160 lbs without gear, Simmons skis with pretty old carbides (saving new ones for later in season), stock spring untouched from dealer prep, 162 1.375" Stud Boys up the middle. I put Powder Hounds on my wifes new Attak GT, and I can't wait to try them out. I bet I will like them better than the Simmons.
I did notice that it would corner better if I leaned forward and over to the side, it's either I was too lazy to do it at first, or it's not as easy to lean as the Rev I rode.
How would you compare the handling of your Attak to your 05 Mach?

first ride
Put 20 miles on 07 attaks. Great power Do need to do some work dialing them in. I will purchase 13 mm sway bars.
One of them the brake light is stuck on and there is an super annoying vibration noise coming from the dash pod area at 3-4k rpms. Searched around, but didn't locate it. Anyone have any of these problems?

My Mach was unlike any other around. The 05's came with the poor shocks given the calibre of the machine. I ditched the suspension for an m-10 in the rear, Dual rate springs and Ohlins all around. This made for a great handling 05 Mach. The 06 & 7's have the optional "X" package that comes with decent shocks. A big factor in my switching to YAmaha this year was all the different (High end) suspension choices they offer. I love the fact that all the Apex/Attak choices have, at the very least, rebuildable shocks. To answer your question I am afraid I'll have to reserve comment until I can get it on the trails. From what I can tell so far....I'm thinking I'll be as pleased as ever.
