just picked up the new sled on saturday(2006 attak-blue) . looks sweet . LOVE THE SOUND AND NO SMOKE. anyways has anybody installed the skid plate and a-arm protectors? i want to install this weekend and was wondering how hard are they to install ( have different bolts now versus the old rivet way)and do u think there worth while having? I have hit stumps on my lake in the past and wondering if these will help the impact and save th a-arms or prevent major damage ? also how many studs should i put on for a safe trail riding number???? and what is the best pattern??? :4STroke:

any input would be great
JP

I don't have studs but everything else and they will work
to help protect to a degree.

thanks for the reply, how hard was it to install that skid plate and the a-arms protectors, ????? just wondering cause in the yamaha accessories catalogue , they show a recessed nut and some bolts ??? not sure?

thanks JP

I have both the a-arm guards and the skid plate. I installed them both myself. It is a little scary drilling out the the rivits for the skid plate but if you follow the instructions it is easy. I don't like the a-arm protectors for two reasons 1. the enclosed mounting hardware does not allow for easy removal once installed. 2. the a-arm guards only protect the lower a-arm , sticks and stuff still whack the upper a-arm especially in the low snow conditions most of us are forced to ride in. good luck wak ;)!

Some people feel the Skidplates are mainly an appearance item, not much additional protection. Studs for trail riding, most would reccomend 108 up the middle, typically woody's 136 pattern. 1.325 length. studdog

This past weekend I saw something on my new ATTAK, I also have those A Arm Protectors. At 125 MPH on the dream meter the front end starts getting a little light and starts to Hydro Plane, I swear air is getting under & lifting those A Arm Protectors like a Wing. As soon as I eased off the throttle it darted over 2 the left as I was drifting 2 the right.

Anybody else C this as well, or Am I Dreaming this :moon:

Who says YAMAHA's Can't Fly 8)

On my A-arm protectors instead of riveting them on as directed, I used stainless screws, washers and locnuts so can easily be removed if needed.

well guys i decided to go with the yamaha skidplate and may make some aluminun or stainless a-arm protectors like rich mentioned in his post. not sure on the yamaha a-arms protectors, look kinda pointless. also after reading about the attak overheating, how hard is it to get at the coolant filler cap( i want to test the antifreeze for a 60/ 40 mix as other people have said. don't have more than 5kms on the sled and want no problems when i break it in.

thanks
JP
