I have a 2006 attak. Love the sled but I have had it with getting cold. What I mean is the windshield is too low for my type of riding. I've looked at the different windshields and can't decide which one will work for me. I'm 6'0" and the stock windshield lets the air hit be mid chest. I would like one that doesn't look bad :-o and lets the wind hit me above the bottom edge of my helmet. Will one of the Yam access windshields work. I've heard the taller ones bend when you get your speed up? I've also read that the fit is not very good. I'm getting cold in my old age and need help making the right choice.

When I bought mine, I had the dealer replace the stock shield with the next higher 'mid' shield. It works great. Done triple digits many times with no folding over problems.

I too was sick of getting cold.......I put on the tall shield. There is still one more taller...the Extra Tall......which is the one that may bend in high speeds. My tall shield does not bend.

The tall shield felt fine last year........but after riding this year...I'm not so sure! LOL! I'm only 5' 8"....and the top of the tall shield is about neck high! So this may give you just enough protection without going to the extra tall. ;)!

It does have the brackets. The brackets go on the inside between the windshield and the removeable cover over the fuel tank.

I bought one for my 07 RTX and tonight was looking at the installed height. It is tall... taller than my 05 RX-1's stock windshield was.

For me it's about upper chest height, but it looks like I'll be looking through the windshield when looking at portions of the trail (closer to the sled).

The mid height deflects the wind from your chest and helps keep your hands warm as well. Personally I like it but it does look a bit big on the sled nothing outrageous though.

i picked up a tall with the brace at the end of last winter and it was a big help! but i decided to take it off because of my clamshell, i only had a 2 inch gap at the high spot to line the top of the windscreen with. it just became too much of a pain in the #*$&@ moving the sled back and forth trying to get the lid to close without landing on the windscreen. so im going to buy a better jacket and a set of handguards this year and give that a try.

could u have just marked the trailer floor once u found the proper spot I went through this with my race car and trailer for 6 weeks and thn figured i ould mark the floor were a tire should be alot less of a pain just a thought it may not work for u

I am goint to try to 12.25 " low with the lip like the Cobra sport techs of my other sleds. They are all on Yamah accessory page.

I have been told this gets the wind up to the face / high neck area on a 6' 2'' guy at trail speeds. The key for me is off the chest bcz then it goes up my helmet.

If not I will get the medium pictured above., similar trim lines and 14.25 ". I like the looks of the shorter better, we will see

If the snow doesn't melt in the UP I will know next week

I can't stand it... and I've got to know. To you guys who are COLD :brrr: :

--what kind of coats, shirts, etc are you wearing? I've never had anything but a low windshield and never get cold. IMHO the key is- you get what you pay for.

A good quality full face helmet with electric shield, add a good Gore Tex (or similar type) coat (wind/waterproof) - then dress in layers depending on how cold it is. I always wear long underware only under the Gore Tex bibs (no jeans = very comfy) and a "long underware top," add a long sleave t-shirt and/or sweater or fleece depending on temps. Black long underware from Cabelas, great stuff, different weights (thickness) for different temps. They call us "men in black."

After spending $10 g's for a cool looking sled, I could never ruin the "look" by adding a dorky looking TALL windshield --with brackets no less...

For me it isn't the cold (unless it's -40 out). It's overall comfort.

I like to put on 500-800 km (300-500 miles) per day and typically a lot of that includes cruising at fairly high speeds. We often ride for 10-15 hours straight (often only stopping for food and fuel).

A low windshield with wind buffeting you in the helmet (and possibly chest) is much more tiring. I find the wind buffeting my helmet gives me a sore neck after a few days of sledding. With the stock 06 RTX I tried last season I could feel my arms (and neck) starting to ache after only 3 hours or so of high speed riding.

With good wind protection I can ride day after day and maximize my sledding enjoyment.

I also put on alot of miles, and just ordered the tall shield for the same reasons you just gave. I'll take comfort and function over looks. Did you see the venture lite mirrors that can be attached to the brace?

I picked up a pair of the Venture Lite mirrors, but decided the brace wasn't robust enough. The problem is the brace can rotate fairly easily.

I just ordered a pair of universal handlebar mount mirror brackets from Royal Distributing (part #s A12-0928120 and A12-28125 - one is LH thread). These mount solidly to the handle bars and the Venture Lite mirrors mount to them (order the mirrors separately - they are much cheaper than the kit).
