ATTENTION TO EVERYONE

I've been warned about the pivot arms enough where I inspect mine closely after every ride while I'm greasing the suspension. Luckily I haven't seen any cracks yet. Maybe I'll get lucky, but this component apparently warrants constant inspection. We ride hard and I have ridden with two other sleds now that have broken theirs while riding in our group along side the rest of us. Ironically, last season it was a cat, this season it was a polaris.

Well I would have to say that I would have had better odds that the Polaris arm would've lasted me allot longer. But the reality is:

1. Tracked vehicles, especially snowmobiles, require a ton of maintenance.

2. Mechanical things are destined to break. However, that failure will come sooner than later if the parts are either poorly fabricated, or pushed beyond their limitations, or both.

Agreed. I always wonder how these things can withstand the abuse as long as they do.

And I'm not trying to say that Yamaha does not have an issue with their weld quality on these things. There are enough members here that have seen failures to show an obvious trend. It is just interesting that the other brands that I ride with also have seen the same issue. The Polaris torque arm did not fail at the weld, it snapped in half.

I know you weren't. Snapped in half - yeah, they've been having that problem with their parts (drive shaft) lately. I was thinking that maybe the guy was riding an '05 or '06 EDGE. The '02 was a pretty damn reliable, dependable sled for me in comparison to the one ton, gold-digger - Shhhhhh...
