For night riding, has has anyone installed aux driving lights on their sleds? I will be doing more night riding in the future and the stock Phazer lights aren't great. Plus this would be much cheaper than upgrading to HID.

Anyone have pictures of driving lights mounted on their sled?

Careful on how much you load up the stator with extra driving lights.
Burning out a stator will not be cheaper than a HID kit.

Exactly. I already run a gps, digital water temp gauge, and heated shield.. I figure i only have 2 amps or so available. Maybe HID is the answer. Or led lights.

You could also consider 100/55 bulbs from britelites.net that I think do an excellent job for night riding for about $20 per bulb.

I'd be wary of using 100w bulbs as you may fry the wiring and the stator due to increased load. Never been a fan of those. HIDs are a good option for increased light output witha lower current draw (35w).

stock high beams are 60 watts, so by running a pair of 100/55',s you are 80 watts over. I don't think the stator has that much reserve, and if it does, its going to be HOT!

I don't know what the maximum output is for the stator and have used the 100/55's for almost 12 years now with out any problems. Maybe someone with this info could come forward for this topic. I do agree that the HID lights are an excellent alternative and worth the price.

The phazer's A.C. magneto's output is: 14 V 31.5 A, 440 W at 5,000 r/min

..an excellent alternative--- and they use a lot less power, only 35 watts a piece and much brighter than any stock or aftermarket bulb available IMHO.

If you add these driving lights: http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php? ... a1c0ca9c9a
they only draw 10 watts each... so with the HIDs you're still drawing a total of 20 watts less then the original stock headlights. ... and that leaves room for lots of LEDs :jump:

Yamaha only recommends 2.5amp/30watts worth of accessories draw on a Phazer, which is exactly what the fuse it rated for on the accessory plug. The Issue I find with my Phazer is that with the low beam aimed properly the high beam is then aimed too high. I'm adding a Rigid SRM to my front bumper this summer and wiring it to come on with the high beam and aiming it so it covers the lower area with light when the high beam is on. Rigid also offered to use what ever "color" LED I wanted for no extra charge but I'd have to wait 6-8 weeks to get it, no big deal as the 5300k is TOO white/blue for a sled on there normal LEDs but a nice 3800-4000k 80+ CRI led would work great.

I looked at the Rigid for a comparable light. Why would you spend that kind of money ($200 vs $70) for a little more wattage (11.5 vs 10) that produces the same lumens (750) per light? What am I missing? Heck, you could mount 4 of them for $140 and have 3,000 Lumens out front (we're talking daylight). The 5000 color of the Superbrights is perfect in MHO. I'm running 8000 in my HID's...

Whatever you do I would wire it with a switch so it can be on all the time, especially if you are not running HID's. Either of the LED's will be way brighter than the stock bulb on high or low.
