It's no wonder why I continue to buy and ride Yamaha Snowmobiles since 1979 - they stand by their products. I bought a 2013 Venture GT last month from an individual with only 1,300 miles; it was in excellent shape but no extended warranty. Bought it for a good price and brought it home.
Following day noticed a "spot" on the floor under the belly pan: it was gas. Not a puddle but I wasn't very happy.
Took the sled to our place up north and started looking for what I figured was a loose connection... what I found was some gas under the tank.
One of the tunnel rivets wore a tiny hole in the tank in only 1,300 miles - unbelievable... these tanks list for over $500. The best discounted price I saw was around $450.
Even though there was no warranty, I called Customer Service. I nicely told them this should have never occurred, especially with the low mileage. They made no promises and told me I'd have to submit a non-warranty claim through a dealer; Watson's Marina in Curtis, MI was happy to help me out. They could see the sled hadn't been abused in any way and so they sent their report and photos to Yamaha. I hoped Yamaha would go-to-bat on this one because it just wasn't right. A week later (yesterday) Watson's called me and said Yamaha would pay for a new tank! Great News!
I'll be putting some "extra protection" on the bottom of the new tank. The rivet on the right side with the black electrical tape was the one. It appears to be fully seated and had the rubber gasket in place. Still can't figure out why it happened. When you have your own sled apart take a look at the bottom of the gas tank!
