Spent Monday night riding with a couple buddies, and did some fairly hard ditch banging, and after my ODO said 70 miles my low fuel light came on! I am going to check my fuel lines since I recently had the tank out, but I'm 99% sure theres no leak. I pulled the sled back in my garage, let it sit inside with the garage cloased up and there was no smell of fuel, and I could find nothing dripping even when running.
Could the clutch kit, pipes, added +10 on the ECU, and airbox mod kill my mileage that bad? I'm used to at least getting somewhere in the neighborhood of 130 - 140 miles from a tank, at least! I couldn't believe that those mods would suck down twice as much gas, so I had to ask!
We were riding fairly agressively for night riding, and I was on and off the throttle alot, but not much more than usual.

thats about normal for ditch riding..

Ive been beating up the trails around my house.. its hard to keep a 40mph average speed.. and i have about half a tank at 70miles..

These sleds only get 14-15 on average and 16 at best.. some get a tail wind and get 17mpg.. and guys from canada get 20mpg (because there gas is measured in imperial gallons)

With 615 miles on my 07 Attack now, I have found a direct relationship between how hard I squeeze the Joy Flipper and my gas mileage. Last Friday I went out with my son with his new 06 Sabercat and had a fairly easy ride on the river for 54 miles. Mostly riding around 45-65 mph with little snow, occasional jumps to 75-85. It really took a toll on my hyfax, but mileage was the best so far at 15.6 mpg.
After the ride I put in 3.5 gallons to fill and the Sabercat took 5 gallons.

On Sunday we took another ride on ditch trails. The first 52 miles was slower with ungroomed (rough) ditch. At the fill up, I took on 3.9 gallons for 13.3 mpg. He used 5.4 gallons.

On the 52 mile trip back via a different route we had a lot of fast riding, 95 to 100+.

Today when I filled my sled back up it took 4.1 gallons for 12.68 MPG.

Maybe it will get better with more break in, but 15+ is still good on any sled.

yeah, i cant understand the mileage differences with all these sleds, ive seen guys say 15 to 17 mpg, and i get 11 mpg everytime with my 06 attak, im on the throttle all the time, but most these guys say they are too, who drives around on these sleds putting at 35 mph..i dont worry about it to much but i would like to see 14 to 15 mpg..

I have about 625+/- miles on my sled, and if I remember right, I put about 7 gallons in when the trip meter said 78 miles. I also wonder how bad the modifications have hurt my mileage.
Do most of you guys feather your throttles while ditch riding, or do most of you ride with a more constant throttle? I seem to find that I feather the throttle, or try to keep the rev's up while riding. (old 2-stroke habits) It seems to be quieter, without the echo in my head!
Granted, I desperately need to stud this thing, and I was spinning alot, but it is still counting the miles.
Do any of you have modified sleds? And if so, did your mods hurt your mileage?

When I'm ditch riding its to the bar all the time because I'm luanching off every drift, driveway and frozen deer I come across! No idea what my milage is but I know it sucks. We found one 20 mile strech with 3-4 feet of powder in it and I wouldnt doubt it if I used 3 gal in that 20 miles alone. Eric

I would say your getting less from the mods especially the pipes, clutch..hmmmmm,,,, naaaaa,,,,,Anything Ive' piped in the last 20 years suffered with fuel mileage, its the price you pay buddy.not knocking pipes every 2 stroke Iv'e had,,, I piped ....but its getting hard in Ontario with the OPP to do the mods on exhaust, they will bust your balls.

Most of my 600+ miles have been in stock form, I just made all the mods at once before I started riding last week, adn have only recked up about 100+ miles with the mods. I didn't really notice the first tank of fuel that there was any problems, but I sure caught alot of crap when I had to stop for fuel before the SDI Ski-Doo's

I had the same results last weekend 13-14mpg. Big jump from the vector where i was getting 18-20mpg. I think there is a way to improve milage through clutching. I have the ulmer kit,and it seems on lower end it revs alot more than it needs to be from the 0-60mph range. I installed a new belt and it sucked down the rpm untill it got broken in,and it did get better milage on that tank, and it seemed to run great there,so i'm going to pull 1000 rpm out of the low range and see where that puts me in milage.

its the clutching and the +10 on the pod,i only went up 4 or 5 on pod, have air box mod and no bobbles,i have stock clutching and a yellow-pink-yellow front spring which gives a nice easy engagement unlike the stock spring which is hard to drive under 20mph,wont stay engaged rolling across a parking lot to get gas, secondary clutch is stock with washers behind the studs to prevent coil bind and wound at 60,i get anywhere from 14 to 20mpg here in northern maine depending on how i ride but usually a thursday night burn to lake view for supper and back i get 17-18 with lots of rrbeds and running long lake, your clutch kit might be a little quicker than me and your studs might get you out of the hole a sled length or 2 ahead of me but to me its not worth the extra your paying for gas all year long when your revving high rpms when just trying to trail ride, hard to beat stock clutching for all around performance

The clutch really does engage at the same rpm as stock, and only rev's about 500 rpm higher. It really behaves like a stocker, but with a ton of extra kick when you get into it! I've put pipes on just about everything that I have that has an engine, and that alone has not made it cut in half. Has anybody actually had fuel problems due to anyhing else, even on a stocker?
I've been very happy with the clutch kit, and if you are riding it without really getting into it, you hardly notice the difference....

You did a smart thing here for MPG. The yellow pink yellow has a lower preload with nearly the same total force (as the stock yellow-silver yellow). Lower engagement and lower light throttle cruise RPMs But it should still rev to 10,500 or so when you pin it. But it is the bigger cruise upshift that gives you lower light throttle cruise RPMs, and translates into better MPG

Question,
What would you guess your cruise RPMs have dropped????????
