I had the oppurtunity to meet Kevin (Port Yamaha) and Tom (Mr. Sled) at the Milwaukee show on Saturday morning. Really great guys who KNOW THEIR STUFF! They spent a long time talking with myself (a long time Yamaha owner), my buddy (ordered an Apex GT for his FIRST Yamaha) and another buddy who is about to trade his 2004 RX-1 for an Apex...
Anyway, I bought this windshield from Kevin and went to install it yesterday. I noticed as I unscrewed the bolts holding in the factory shield that they were not very "tight". So I figured it would be a nice idea to put some lock-tite" on the threads and also make them a little tighter when I put on the new shield. BAD IDEA! The silver chrome finish will start to spider if you over crank the bolts! AND, I would not use lock-tite on the threads again either as removing the bolts from the rubber boots holding the nuts proved to be a PITA! I stripped two of the heads in the process....I now have all new nut boots and bolts ordered. I'm not sure how I'll get rid of the spider cracks....it may be an ideal place for one of the numerous trial permits I'll need this winter!

Thanks for the "heads up" as I will be removing the OEM and replacing it with one like yours.

So I've learned the hard way....
Do they not make a mid height red shield for the RTX? I don't see one on the Yamha site.
