I put a new Dayco belt XTX5033 on October 23/23 . I’ve put very close to 1700km on since then. Started seeing some fuzz around my left foot today, I knew what that meant, stopped had a look and this is what I seen, made the 60 km trip home.
I’m not an agressive driver, all trail riding except for a little playing around in my fields, like floating around in the powder snow in the fields. I’ve doubled my wife on it twice this year for a total of probably 100 km with her on, and I’m driving very gentle with her on.
Any ideas why the belt only lasted 1700km? Is it my driving style? Is it just a cheap belt? I’m sure it’s probably the cheapest I could find, I can probably have a look and see what I paid for it. Or could there be another reason?
If it is the brand of belt, any recommendations for a good one?
Thank you
Burt

I looked in my records and it was a Dayco XTX5033, then I ordered a new one, then I searched and found numerous threads mentioning belts lasting 300 to 1800km on the Nytro. Seems to be the norm. Also see that the Dayco belts are garbage so I’m going to call Royal distributing in the morning and see if I can cancel that order and order an OEM belt. Well on second thought I better call Yamaha Dealer first and see if they have one in stock because I’m not waiting 6 week like I did for my last order from Yamaha

Definitely stay with OEM belts. Not to say it won't happen but less likely. I've seen stock belts delaminate the same way but with much more KM.

I’ve called Irwin Supply in Cornwall, going to pick up a new belt today fo 135.00 and return the Dayco that I paid 202.00 for

I have aligned my nytro clutches with the hurricane alignment tool.
Off set ended up being set at 58 mm from inside of primary to outside of secondary sheaves. Belt life is really good set like this.

I put the new belt on yesterday, seems good. This is pretty sad but I’ve never cleaned any clutches on snowmobiles or anything for that matter. I’ve watched a couple videos and may be able to figure out what I’m suooosed to be doing by watching 6 or 7 more and taking what I think is best from them but what would you guys say? I don’t want to take anything apart if I don’t have to while we are in mid season but is there a way I can give them a quick clean with th clutches still on? Maybe tak the belt off to clean though? How would you guys go about this? Brake and parts cleaner and compressed air? I’ve seen people use scotchbrite pad to rough up th sheaves?

just take compressed air at 120 psi and blow out all the nooks and crannies for now. plan on a tear apart in the off season.

Thanks Maim, besides blowing them out, would it be a bad or good idea to wipe the inside of the sheaves with some brake and parts cleaner with the belt off? Or just blow and it off like you said and plan on cleaning them well in the off season, and maybe at the same time do an inspection? I will need some help of course lol, would it be a good idea to try and learn how to take them apart now during the season, I don’t mean actually take them apart but I could try and find some videos and then if I’m not understanding maybe post with any questions. I’m just wondering if there’s anyone on here in the offseason?

Do check the buttons in the secondary.

Cleaning the clutch faces is a good idea if there is some burnt rubber on them. I just use some Scotch Brite to clean them.

Are the buttons on the secondary a common wear item? I’ve heard the term before but can’t recollect exactly what they and where they are, I’m assuming I would need to take the secondary off? I’ve had the secondary off before but beyond that I don’t know. I will have a look in the manual. Thanks Mooseman, pretty good season we are having around here this year. I was up as far as Metcalfe last week, trying to take advantage of this winter we are having.

They are 3 little plastic buttons that serve as slides between the two sheave helixes. You should be able to see them from the outside of the clutch. This video shows the process pretty well.

I was able to do mine without taking it apart and clutch still in place. Just be careful while prying them out that you don't break the little stem but if you do the video's method, that's not a problem.

Thank you, seems easy enough. I will have a look at those today. Good little video, right to the point

x2 on removing any rubber on the clutch faces with scotchbrite or sos pad.
