So i just put on a new belt that i recieved this christmas.
This thing is squeeling so bad i am embarrased to let my sled idle around other people. seems like no matter what i do it just squeels and squeels.
It is absolutely terrible. Every time i stop for any more than 20 seconds i shut off the sled because the sound is driving me crazy.
I have cleaned/washed the belt before installing. I lightly scuffed the clutch with scothhbrite and checked my clutch alignment. nothing seems to stop the squeeling
Anyone else have this happen to them with these new belts?

Take the secondary clutch off, remove the three small bolts on the back and remove the washers. Install the bolts. This should open your clutch a little so there isn't as much tension on the belt

Ditto what guardrail says, removing the shims will allow the belt to sit lower in the 2ndary resulting in just enough 'slack' so it won't run on the primary shaft.

stock shim washers are 1mm, you can get .5mm at the dealer, you don't want the belt to drop to far into the secondary at idle, cause it will be like starting out in 2nd gear

one more note...after the belt wears some...add some washer(s) to bring the belt back up

where is the belt siting in the secondary right now?

Like everyone else said belt deflection. Also not all belts measure the same, due to manufacturing tolerance. Adjust your belt deflection and your good to go.

Take the sled out and hammer on it for a few hours to stretch it out and no more squeal !!!
I put on a new one this monday , it squealed like crazy , I broke it in for about 20 miles and then took it out on a pond and dropped the hammer for a few 100+ mph passes and the squeal was gone .
Just my 2cents .

Yep rail the thing until wear belt a bit no more squeal. These Yams are not quick & easy to deflect. You need to take secondary off & hope washers are correct shim or still get squeal. Belts wear well tho I have 3500 on my belt & still pretty good.
