Hello,
Has anyone used Bergstrom Ski Savers and Shims on their RX-1 with any success in cutting down darting?
Thanks.

Yes, the shimming is the key. Works on all sleds.

No, did not work for me, however, ski-savers worked well in protecting the ski keel. To correct the darting issue you will need to change skis or add SnowTrackers.
Darting
So is the best solution for an RX-1 adding a shim and adding SnowTrackers to cut down on darting?

I use the Begstrom 6"ong carbides, the 1/4" thick ski savers and teh shims on both my 03 RX1 and my SRX. The combination made a world of difference, no darting at all on either sled. The ski savers alone are a greta idea, the take the majority of the abuse from the ocasional nonsnow objact and when they get worn out, you simply change a low cost part.
The key to the shims is to make sure the rubber spacers are not worn out. If they are, the shim ends up not applying pressure to the back of the ski. I would say to prolong the life of the rubber spacers, it would be good to remove them or at least take teh weight off of them during long-term storage.

SnowTrackers alone, no shimming necessary. I have also used a product called "Dartless" as well, but the SnowTrackers are worth every penny. And even though they don't look like it, they actually lighten the steering effort.

simmons skis come with 2 bolt holes in the saddle for the shimming effect. I have run them for approx 11k miles and will not go to anything else. No darting and excellent flotation.

I like Bergstroms ski savers. They add a tad of height to the bottom of the keel for better cornering. It's like getting taller keeled skis. Plus they do help protect the bottoms of your new spendy skis.
The stock Yammi skis can be made usable with good carbides, toeing the skis out until they stop darting (trial and error on the trail, usually about 1/4" toe'd out per ski, but toe'd out equally on each side), and shiimng the rear of the rubber stoppers 1/4" in the rear.
Do those things and the stock skis will work okay. Not fantastic performance, but the skis will work and not be darting all over the trail.

Just a few questions. What exactly is involved in shimming, I need to buy new skis for my rx1. I want to know what to get and what to get for shiming them.
