Can someone explain how the big nuts are better? I am going through the track motion in my head.....I just do not not see it.

They claim the big nuts to keep the studs from bending as they come up the stud more.I have seen post were guys had bent allot of studs and then went to the big nut and never bent another, thats why I was going to spend the extra for them.

and they are lighter, which means less rotating mass.STORM-CHASER said:They claim the big nuts to keep the studs from bending as they come up the stud more.I have seen post were guys had bent allot of studs and then went to the big nut and never bent another, thats why I was going to spend the extra for them.

Bodacious said:I just studded my Attak last night 1.40 SS studs, Woody's round alum plates and Woody'S Big Nuts .500. The nuts are lighter than the steel nyloc type, but the sweetest part was that I was able to tighten down the nuts without ever using an allen-wrench on the back side of the studs.
Hmm... I like the sound of that -- not having to use the !@#$%^&* allen wrench! The nuts came with lock washers? And they look adequate enough to do the job (not loosen up) without getting into the whole locktite routine???

sorry guys,
yes they were the .500's with the locking washers and I did put a dab of locktite on each one. I was very impressed with them, you would be suprised at the weight savings between them and the standard nuts. I put in the 1.325 woody's 2-4-2 pattern-144 with the double backers with no issues on missing/bent studs. I am putting the exact same on the GT but only putting on 120. I found that with my other set up I just hooked up to well and when I ride in the tight twisty trails the back end just wouldn't kick loose.

Snowholic, if that's the way you like to ride because I like to ride like that as well. Only put in 96 and then go from there. That's all I'm putting in my GT.

I thought woody's recomended the .75 with studs over the 1.08. So any stud 1.187 or longer uses the .75 nut. Maxdlx

Now that you are going 120 are you still going to use the double diggers.like 4-2-0 or use 120 singles?

I thought angle backers are to only be used for racing purposes, not trail use!

Rotax! said:Anybody use the 7 degree angle backers from Woody's? They are supposed to work great. They help keep the stud from flexing and help the stud penetrae a little more, because of less flexing.
I'VE USED THESE. THEY ARE AWSOME. I HAVE THE DOUBLE PLATES INSTALLED ON MY 1.25 TRACK AND NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. BIGG DIFF IN HOOK UP.

Last year I used 144 woodys studs with single and double angled backers with the smaller big nuts. Most of the double backer studs started to work loose and came out. I talked to woodys and them told me I should NOT use locktite and I need to retighten after 100 miles.

Just to make sure I am not putting down woodys they are a top shelf company with great products.
