I am trying to get a trip lined up for the Black Hills leaving on March 1st. Anyone have any recommendations for where to stay, where the best riding is, and how many days of riding can be done there without getting bored?

We are going to be there on March 2nd and have a place to stay at Strawberry Hill B and B its my first time there so can't tell you anything but maybe we'll see you on the trails. Have fun

Recreation Springs is where we stayed in Lead. Trail is right off the lodge.

There are 300 miles of groomed trail all which can be covered in a day. Very few places to stop like 3 I think. Trail riding wasn't really that fun. Off trail riding is dangerous with low snow and a TON of stumps and logs.

Overall we drove 10 hrs and I wouldn't do it again. We ran out of snow and had to cut the trip short 1 day. rec springs was very hospitable and nice people. Leave the trailer and take the truck down to deadwood one night that was a blast!

Its worth it to go once.

kinger when were you out there? I called the Yamaha dealer in Spearfish today and he said conditions were good and they have been getting snow everyday the last couple of day about 2-3 inches per day. Is gas available in many locations? Or just at the resorts.

Looks like they have received a good amount of snow this past week and have a couple more stroms hopefully coming thru this week. Should be a GREAT time.

It is going to be a tough decision if we end up getting snow around here this next week as well! Not looking forward to the drive in addition to reclutching and jetting my buddies Viper for the Hills... would be a lot easier to stay home! We need to cancel our reservations by Monday if we end up getting enough snow to be able to stay home and finally ride the MN trails.

10" in Lead, SD last night??? I just checked the snow report for the Terry Peak ski resort and they are showing 0 inches in the last 24 hours, 4 inches in the past 48 hours and 8 inches in the last 72 hours. Was the 10" of snow totally isolated to a mile radius or something? Not saying your sons are stretching the truth or anything... just trying to figure out what the real situation is.

Just checked the Terry Peak website again... apparently they didn't update it yesterday. Looks like the 10" of snow yesterday was for real!!!

We are going to the Hills weather we get snow here or now in southern wisconsin. NO frost in the ground so I would be pretty sure that they wont open trails here no matter how much snow we get.
